Foreign Legion

 

No, not the LE (Legion Etrangere), this one's homegrown and it's coming to save us all. That's right, a corps of volunteers who will rescue us from Mad Putler and Nazi Racist Trump. We call them the "Unicorn Brigade" and they're made up of FBI and IRS agents. One well known solutions provider said this:

The FBI Legion could write their names in the Ukrainian history books as they conduct human wave attacks over and over again into the Russian lines in the dead of winter no matter the cost.

Heroes will be made even as they fall to concentrated machine gun fire, anti-personnel mines, artillery and as the bodies are pierced by barbed wire entanglements...but maybe the loss of 35,000 FBI agents and 87,000 IRS agents will be worth it if Ukraine is free?

T 55s in Ukraine

 

All you tank heads may have noticed Russia's been pulling Cold War relic T 55s out of storage and sending them, apparently, to the front. Will they be upgraded with thermal sights and reactive armor? Who knows but we do know this.

The T55 is the most-produced tank in history, with >96,000 made, of which Russia has approximately 2,800. The tank features a 100 mm gun (rifled), as opposed to the 125 mm smoothbores employed on later tanks. According to the appalling Wikipedia:

The T-54/55 tanks are mechanically simple and robust. They are very simple to operate compared to Western tanks, and do not require a high level of training or education in their crewmen. The T-54/55 is a relatively small main battle tank, presenting a smaller target for its opponents to hit. The tanks have good mobility thanks to their relatively light weight (which permits easy transport by rail or flatbed truck and allows crossing of lighter bridges), wide tracks (which give lower ground pressure and hence good mobility on soft ground), a good cold-weather start-up system and a snorkel that allows river crossings.

 

All well and good, against Pattons or Centurions, but what about now? A German combat engineer fighting with the Ukrainians has this to say, (worth the click) in sum:

The Russians have changed their tactics and increasingly use tanks for indirect fire (out of line of sight), effectively turning their armor into assault guns/mechanized howitzers. And more tellingly, "In my opinion there is no obsolete weapon as long as you use them tactically."

For example, the trebuchet artillery system was maximal Medieval tech and it's so outdated now. But imagine a battery of those catapults raining down flaming hell on, say, Mexia when every modern, chip driven gun has been taken out along with GPS and satellites themselves. Fearsome prospect and perhaps a presage of things to come. Hi-tech ineluctably to lo-tech, sort of thing.

In the meanwhile, Russia has a fair few T55s and vast stores of Soviet era 100 mm. It'd be foolish, surely, for them to ignore such resource. Speaking of which, Europe has disarmed itself and has few tanks, old or new, much less ammo. But that's OK, 'coz America's their Army. Until it isn't.

British Army Fail - Outta Ammo And Men

 

It was a force which went hand in hand, charge to charge in support of the greatest empire the world has perhaps ever seen, but now Britain's armed forces are a hollowed out shadow of their former selves. 

Reeling from decades of cuts, the once mighty British Army fields less than 76,000 persons and that number's due to decline to 73,000 by 2025. Of these, one all-arms battlegroup of 25,000, one division, is fit to fight. Except that they aren't, because Whitehall's mandarins have given all their ammo to the Ukraine.

According to the Daily Express, the UK's singular combat division would "run out of ammunition within a few days if required to fight." 

Within a few days. Still, not to worry, money's been allocated to rebuild the 2.5bn GBP worth of armaments given to Zelensky's regime by London. But guess what, thanks to asset stripping, aka industrial off-shoring, ammo replenishment will take around a decade to get to the troops.

What does this mean? Most obviously, a grievous security threat, and with it a gamble on several levels. Viz. Never again will we have to fight an industrial peer-to-peer war, allowing save a lot of money by adopting high-end, high-tech, smaller defense/offense solutions. 

Gone are the days when we needed actual factories producing hundreds of thousands of shells when one smart bomb will do. In short. We will never, ever have to fight another major war in Europe or, for that matter, anywhere else. 

The second wager is like unto the first. If we're called to fight a real war, we'll supply our proxies with arms and destroy our enemy economically until we win, which won't take long. 

You can almost picture nameless, unelected bureaucracies shaking hands on a budget well kept, after all, that welfare vote doesn't come cheap, and then... those dam Russkies arrive out of the East, firing thousands of shells a day, every day, going full WWI but with drones and hypersonic glide bombs. 

What then, your hand's been called and found wanting, your bluff's been called. So what next? You, the FORPOL reader, be the judge.

Is This The Greatest Debate Ever?

 

Keen-eyed observers of Ost Front will be aware of DPR militia celebrity Igor Strelkov (Girkin) and Yevgeny Prigozhin, commander of Russia's increasingly infamous Wagner PMC. It seems, gentle readers, that the two don't get along.

Here's Strelkov calling for Prigozhin's removal:

The formation (Wagner) must be withdrawn to the rear for replenishment and reorganization, in order to subsequently be used in a more promising strategic direction to break through the front.

But to withdraw Prigozhin himself from the front and COMPLETELY remove him from the leadership of Wagner is urgently necessary. Since his political ambitions (multiplied by psychopathy, the organization of demonstrative war crimes, a tendency to shameless and in many respects false self-promotion and the spread of rotten "criminal concepts" to the armed forces) only harm both Wagner and the common cause of victory over Ukraine.

 

Whoa. Wagner's Jefe wasn't slow to fire back:

To discuss Strelkov, in my opinion, is simply indecent. All offers were made to him: to go to the front and work in PMC Wagner. If he wants, he can come to the council of commanders and ask to become head of the Wagner PMC. I agree with all his decisions... he sits and throws feces. Therefore, why should I comment? I do not offend girls. And the fact that Strelkov is a woman, is in my opinion, already clear to everyone.

I hesitate to post on the war because all of you know far more about it than I do and, to be fair, there's not much glory in being an armchair general even if the chair's solidly ensconced in your favorite club's Coffee Room, and the General's baton's a glass of vintage.

Disclaimer over, where are we at? Pretty deep financially, with moar cash flowing to the Ukraine in one year than we spent on the entirety of the Afghan adventure. Sorry, Ohio, there's other priorities in play and don't say 10% to the Big Guy.

Militarily? If you've read the news over the last year you might be surprised that AZOV hasn't retaken the Crimea and KRAKEN aren't at the gates of Moscow. Early reports of Russia's idiotically useless and corrupt attempt at military action were perhaps premature.

Sorry, persynns, but serious question. Can you pray in our public schools?  No. Do we live under a just and fair rule of law? Try not to smirk and puke at the same time. Do we have a free press or a bought and sold simulacrum of the same? Chunder. Are we a Christian nation, under God, or under Baphomet?

I'd argue and so would the monkey, who's a vicious beast, that we're the latter. Meanwhile, Russia not only flogs and imprisons P. Riot but also outlaws so-called Pride agitprop. They even have a flat tax of 13%, last time I checked, and they're building 1000s of churches.

So who's more Red, the US or Russia. That in mind, Just think on our inevitable victory parade in Red Square, all those rainbow flags flying, to say nothing of the children they've abused. Satan's victory.

I know you disagree, all you Cold Warriors, but I say good call Russia for taking on Globohomo Inc., I hope they win and ban Pedo-Pride parades everywhere.  As it goes, the rainbow West's emptying its munitions stockpile because never have to fight another conventional war ever, ever. That in mind, when UKR forces crack and fold, what then? We have billions invested, would we just walk away, like Afghanistan? Or would we quadruple down in favor of ROI? R standing for rainbow, obviously.

What Happens When...

You don't pay the Army, in this case the National Guard. Do you think the unpaid soldiers will be eager to enforce the orders and commands of their DC rulers? Of course they will, they'll be leaping over the top of their unpaid dugouts to do the bidding of their beloved elite leaders.

I know it's really strange, but not getting paid over Christmas for duty done has an effect on morale. Via the Post Millenial:

Armored Trains

 

Here in America we think of armored trains, if we think of them at all, as relics of a bygone age. Perhaps we recall steel clad locomotives steaming across the African veldt, armed with Martini Henrys, gatlings, Lees and Maxims. Or World Wars I and II, in which battle trains were famously active. Today? Not so much. But hold on, readers.

Armored trains are very much alive and well, especially in Eastern Europe. Serbia, for example, deployed the famous Krajina Express. Here's a photo:

And Russia notoriously armored up some rolling stock in the Chechen conflict, Baikal, Amur, Terek, and Don. These battle wagons were armed with 23 mm ZU-23-2 guns, a T 62 on a flatbed, and 30 mm BMP cannon, to say nothing of small arms, jamming equipment, missiles and whatever else the Russkies strap onto the rolling beasts.

After the second Chechen war these ferocious trains were put in storage only to reappear in rail intensive Ukraine, where they've seen extensive service. Apparently several Chechen conflict trains have been combined into one train, the Volga.

What can we say? The message is clear, surely, armored trains are awesome and we want one, or more. Texas demands it.
