Navigation - Civilizations Before Our Own

Perhaps we take the earth's coordinate grid system, if we think about it all, for granted. But not so fast. Calculating latitude, the distance of a position north or south of the equator, involves trigonometry and calculating longitude, distance east or west of the prime meridian, demands an accurate clock.

A clock? Yes, a clock which tells the time at the prime meridian, the sun's set "starting point" as it moves across the sky, and your position on the earth. Long story very short, if it's Noon at the prime meridian and 2.00 pm at your position, you're at longitude 30° east. Why? Because the sun crosses the sky at a rate of 15° per hour, given 24 hours in a day and 360° in a circle (360° ÷ 24 hours = 15° per hour).

Simple enough math but how do you make the calculation without a good clock? Tricky, which is why Parliament offered an immense prize of £20,000 in 1714, over £2 million today, to anyone who could come up with such a device. John Harrison did so and accurate navigation became possible. But here's the thing.

Back in 1966, science prof John Habgood re-examined the Piri Reis map, compiled from ancient maps by the Turkish admiral of the same name in 1513. Hapgood discovered what he believed were accurate measures of longitude and latitude. If true, this is remarkable.

It means that the ancient maps used by Reis were made by people who understood trigonometry and had some kind of reliable clock. The first supposition is understandable, the 2nd century BC Greek mathematician, Hipparchus, is held to have invented trigonometry.

So Greek cartographers were able, at least in theory, to calculate latitude. But longitude? That takes a good clock and we all know these weren't invented until the 18th century. Or were they.

Here's a reconstruction of the Antithykera Mechanism:

A clock? Or something very like it, dating from the first or second century BC. Food for thought. Hapgood's suggestion in Maps of the Ancient Sea Kings is that there must have been a civilization prior to the Greeks who were skilled mathematicians and able to tell time to the degree required to calculate longitude. I find that fascinating.

Speaking of time, the Government's been shut down for a very long time and everyone seems a lot happier. Was there an advanced civilization before our own? I'd have thought that obvious.

BREXIT FAIL

Theresa May's famously failed to deliver on BREXIT. No one saw that coming; now she has to face a vote of no confidence in her non-performing loan against the British people.

Good luck with that and just in case you haven't noticed, the people across the Channel are rioting against their out of touch, elite, smug, venal, self-serving, mendacious, Illuminati sycophant , bankster globalist leaders.

That wouldn't have anything to do with the UK now, would it.

Here in the fast paced excitement of the newsroom we're thrilled to bring you this photo of our President rescuing children from the sinister talons of what appears to be a demon.

Well done, Mr. President! The Children.

Let The Sunshine In!

Here at the Compound we're all about letting the sunshine in, thanks, LL. So we hope you enjoy this uplifting infovideo, I certainly do. But maybe you prefer this Central Park version?

Beautiful, isn't it. Well, that's Central Park for you.

Anglican Center in Rome Gets a Genius

Did you know that there's an Anglican Centre in Rome? Well there is, and it's all about promoting Christian unity, not least between Canterbury and the Holy See. The Centre says as much on its website

The Anglican Centre in Rome is the permanent Anglican Communion presence in Rome. It is a living symbol of our Communion's commitment to the full visible unity of the Church.

Unity

Sounds good, right? All very ut unum sint, which is doubtless why this venerable outpost of Anglican ecumenism has appointed a new director who does believe in gay marriage but doesn't believe in the bodily resurrection, the Very Rev. Dr. John Shepherd.

Shepherd, who served as Dean of Perth Cathedral, is married to a woman and was famous for supporting gay marriage. You can read his line of reasoning here and if you do, note the privileged clergyperson enlisting the aid of St. Paul. It's a clever trick, St. Paul was really in favor of same sex marriage because he was so against it. Whatever, John.

Walk Into The Light!

But that was then, this is now and Shepherd's famous again for denying the bodily resurrection of Christ. So much for the Apostle, the Gospels, the Church Fathers, and every Christian worth the name from the beginning up until now. And that's just it.

How can someone like Shepherd even say they're a Christian while denying the resurrection? To quote Shepherd's favorite Apostle, "your faith is in vain." So too, we have to imagine, is the Anglican Centre's claim to be a "living symbol" of "the full visible unity of the Church."

A Typical Mantid

The problem here is that Christians, even Pope Francis, believe in the resurrection. The Anglican Communion's representative in Rome doesn't. Unity, obviously, isn't in it. I'll leave you with Kirk, via Ignatius:

Quite simply there is no firm or fixed ground on which such discussions can be based. What price agreement on the real presence in the Eucharist, for example, when the bodily resurrection itself is in question? Agreement on the former whilst the latter remained an open question would quite simply be absurd. Of course, one cannot know for certain how many Anglican clergy, like the Very Rev’d John Shepherd, deny the resurrection. But one can be assured that unbelief is no impediment to preferment. And be pretty well certain that its incidence increases up the hierarchy.

And be pretty well certain that its incidence increases up the hierarchy. Exactly.

Wireless Wave Energy

Imagine there was a source of free electricity, drawn from the earth itself and then transmitted around the world wirelessly. Nikola Tesla famously thought it could be done and so does Viziv Technologies, formerly Texzon.

Viziv believes this can be done via a Zenneck wave, an electromagnetic wave which uses the surface of the earth as a waveguide, carrying communications signals and power efficiently across the globe, all without wires.

Here's a helpful infovid on the concept:

Will Viziv in cooperation with Baylor Research and associated investors deliver on their promise of free wireless energy, fulfilling the great Tesla's vision? And will all that free energy end up free for you, the end user?

Good question, in the meanwhile Viziv's built a large Tesla Tower  or "transmitter probe" not too far from the Compound, and should be testing the Zenneck wave now. I've got a good mind to drive over and check it out.

Any similarity between Nikola Tesla and the man featured on the sleeve art of the classic hit Don't Fear The Reaper is entirely coincidental.

The Baptism of Christ

Listen up, heathen. Today we celebrated the Baptism of Christ and with it an epiphany. What do we see as Christ goes down into the Jordan?

The Holy Spirit descending upon him like a dove, and our minds go to the Spirit hovering over the waters of creation and Noah's dove, finding dry ground. And so he is. In Christ, mankind's recreated and finds dry ground, a new creation over the waters of our fallen deluge. No wonder, he is the Father's only begotten son.

Thou art my son, with thee I am well pleased, speaks the divine voice from glory. Consider the echo from psalm two. Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee. Such is Christ, begotten of the Father in the timeless day of eternity. The poetry of Proverbs speaks:

I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.  When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth... when he appointed the foundations of the earth:  Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him...

And St. John puts it with implacable force and simplicity:

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him and without Him was not anything made that was made.

Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, very God of very God, begotten not made. The Word made Flesh. As such he is utterly holy, utterly righteous and infinitely full of the perfection and infinite power of God. Power to save fallen mankind, as foretold by Isaiah:

...a light of the Gentiles; To open the eyes of the blind, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

He has power, as God's Son, to redeem. But where is his power exercised, where is the strength of his arm outsretched in might? On Calvary. We see a glimmer of this in Our Lord's baptism.

Christ goes down into the waters of the Jordan to receive John's baptism of repentance. He, who is sinless, does so in humility, love and solidarity with fallen man; humility and love which will take him to Golgotha and the destruction of sin, death and Satan.

As adopted sons of God, we are invited to share in his victory, won on the hard wood of the Cross. Rejoice in that.

By the grace of God,

Yellow Vests At It Again!

It's bizarre, but the French people are out on the streets again to protest their out of touch, elite, smug, venal, mendacious banking aristocracy.

They're perversely unhappy with being the most taxed country in the world, when every enlightened progressive knows that the more you're taxed the richer you'll be. It's like global warming or climate change, the hotter it gets the colder it is.

The foolish French don't seem to get this impeccable lib logic, so they're taking out speed cameras, rioting, driving fork lifts into financial institutions and planning a bank run against their globalist rulers.

Paul Joseph Watson comments:

Again, I'll ask you to imagine what this kind of protest would look like in the US. Bets on rather ugly, rather quickly.

I'm not betting man, but I'll wager the fighting monkey on Macron not staying around much longer, eh?

Guinea on the monkey!

Trump American Hero

LL via Ed has a few things to say about our President:

I think that President Trump is one of the few genuine heroes with an American heart in politics. And there are very few of them. He serves without pay, at great cost to his personal fortune, for the sake of the nation. Draining the swamp and reducing the size of government is what we need above all else.
For the first time in my life, the Left in 2018, was interrupted in its sequences of uninterrupted victories in their ongoing efforts to destroy life, liberty, joy and faith wherever found. We need to give President Trump a lot of credit.
These are folk who favor contraception, abortion, gay marriage, and campus thought-police. They love riots and turmoil. These are folk who burn the flag, kneel for the anthem, and trample the crucifix.
They want to make Santa Claus gender-neutral and Dr. Who a girl, and they insist on banning “Baby, it’s Cold Outside” as problematical. Each time you think society has reached the basement floor of ugliness, insanity, pointlessness, and inhumanity, the floor breaks, and deeper, darker abysses beckon. There is no bottom.
Reflect on HG Well's Time Machine for a moment if you will.
The Left is divided for convenience sake into two taxonomies: the Morlocks are the self-aware Left, who know and love evil, and are not self deceived. These are the masterminds, the prime movers, the men who know better.
The Eloi are the useful idiots who, acting against their own common sense and self preservation, are lured into a mob, whipped into a frenzy, and stirred into reckless self destruction by the Morlocks.
The names come from a famed science fiction fable where the pride in man’s evolutionary progress is curtly suborned in the reality that progress sometimes means devolution. Also, Morlocks are cave dwellers who work the mechanisms keeping the plantation in motion. The Eloi are their victims and livestock.
The distinction is made lest anyone blame the Eloi for their own self deception. They are guilty of negligence, not malice, and some are so foolish and proud that they have no idea the lemming horde is heading toward the cliff. They think a futuristic paradise awaits them once they leap into the sea.
What awaits them is Venezuela, USSR, Cambodia, and Detroit, otherwise known as Famine, Plague, War and Death.

Outstanding, LL. But for what it's worth, I'd say Trump represents the old, pre-rainbow pantomime America, the one that fought two world wars to save Europe from the Nazis.

Imagine Obama doing that, much less the MillSoc EuroCom stooges that run what was once Christendom on behalf of the banking cabal.

Question is -- Trump, rearguard or vanguard?

Who'd you say your name was?

Zero Point Energy

What is Zero Point Energy? Thanks to quantum mechanics and Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, we know that the absolute position and velocity of any particle cannot be simultaneously definable.

So even at a temperature of absolute zero, any substance must have a certain minimum energy. This energy is referred to as zero-point energy (ZPE).

There have been speculations that usable energy might be extracted using ZPE but this is almost certainly pseudoscience.

Lambeth Palace declined to comment.

No? Then don't build walls, open your doors.

Yes, the doors of your house. Open them.
