Adrienne's right: both the Alamo and Gettysburg were very somber places. Much like Dachau near Munich, and lately the little church near ground zero in Manhattan. No loud voices from the tourists, simply very hushed conversations about the historical significance.

I still remember the first time I went to the Alamo. It was like being in a church. Same with Gettysburg.

I know what you mean -- I was strangely moved at the Alamo. Like being in a church. Well put. The River Walk? Different story altogether...
