Visting The Sick in The Plague Year

Remember the reports out of Wuhan and then Italy? Pandemic disaster, right? People falling dead on the street, hospitals overwhelmed, crematoria burning 24/7 and all the rest. Scary stuff, like Journal of a Plague Year redux. Flash forward maybe 6 months, and what do we see? I went to a hospital in Waco today to find out.

Was it overwhelmed with plague victims, in the kind of crisis you'd expect from a deadly disease that's shut down the nations of the West and forced Texans, yes Texans to wear masks? No, it was not.

After passing through a viral safety checkpoint, which consisted of a crop haired girl with tattoos and a handheld thermometer gun the place was empty. Seriously, you could fire a homemade pipe canon or a trebuchet down the corridors of this Health Industry and not hit a soul.

Which made everything easy. I conducted some business with the billing section, which you can visit as much as you like, unlike the patient side which you can't, tellingly. And yes, Hillcrest's gotta look after the cash flow.

There's a moral here, if you care to draw it. As in, how much does this place of healing get paid for the COVID-19, Chinese Bat Bug? Thousands, tens of thousands, more? Follow the money.

Regardless, thoughts of conspiracy, corruption and outright malfeasance aside, I sent flowers via the "gifte shoppe" to a church lady, along with a letter. I wasn't allowed to visit her, obviously, unlike Billing.

But priests must care for their flock, even in times of election year plague and, thank God, underwhelmed hospitals. Then it was time to get on the deadly nightmare that is I35 and head back to base, mission accomplished.

GREATEST PRESIDENT EVER

Sources are reporting that Trump has dealt a killer blow in his ongoing war against his sworn enemy, the U.S. Post Office. In a move of sheer, mind-blowing brilliance, Trump directed the Post Office to put his face on every single stamp, forcing the Democrats to reverse course and abolish the institution once and for all.
The new stamp, dubbed "The Trump-Stamp," to be used on all pieces of mail features a smiling Donald Trump, with the caption "GREATEST PRESIDENT EVER."

Read on, or perhaps you'd like to watch the Democrat Convention. Unlike everyone else.

Speaking of which, have you seen all the people protesting in person that it's not safe to vote in person? What can we say, settled science.

Cheers,

Guerilla Man

Anon, you'll forgive me for embarrassing you by quoting this comment in its entirety. I think it's right on and then some; he writes in response to the bestial, crazed, satanic Bolsheviks slaughtering the Tzar's children. Read on:

It’s endemic to the human condition to ‘other’ those ‘not like me’. Those ‘not like me’ aren’t human, they’re things. It may have originally started as family and tribal but the nation-state did no more than expand the classification a little.
I spent thirty odd years being involved with every conflict The UK was (officially and unofficially) involved in, and … I’ve seen just how common acts like this, and worse (you really don’t want my nightmares), really are. (Out of western first world countries this would probably be seen as ‘just another of those terrible, regrettable, but oh so common events’ …. even now. Don’t believe me? Go to any country in Asia, Africa or South America, get away from the city centres/tourist areas and see just what atrocities constitute ‘normal daily life’ there. We’re still living in tiny island of civilisation amidst seas of barbarity even now).
Why is it that western nations aren’t still this way? One word… Christianity. ‘Only’ Christianity demands that those ‘not like us’ be treated exactly as ‘like us’ (Oh, there are other faiths that suggest others not of the faith be treated reasonably, but … only as prospective members, and they’re still not really seen as equal. Yes, Christianity was interpreted otherwise for a period, whilst under brutal attack, but, even now, try being of a different faith in a majority Hindu, Buddhist or, worst of all, Islamic area).
The past is mirrored in the current ’political’ behaviour. Christians view those of other faiths as, at worst, uninformed/misinformed but genuine and worthy of respectful treatment. Islam, as the most blatant example, views those of other faiths as evil to be converted at the point of a sword, or wiped out. Marxism (and its current incarnation of socialism/progressivism) follows islams model.
Our societies, and the mores and laws which govern them are based, exclusively, on Judeo-Christian values. Which is why I despair – the very people who demand more and more rights (without all those icky responsibilities of course) are the very people attacking, tearing down, banning the fundamental, foundational basis for those very rights. I still can’t decide whether it is ignorance, malicious intent, blind wishful thinking, or a self-destructive mindset on their part to deliberately destroy that which protects, specifically them, from destruction (witness ‘defund the police’, ‘BLM’, Feminists and gays for islam, etc.).
The average person has little idea just how much they owe to the Anglosphere hegemony (Britain now The US) 'forcing' its values on the world. Imagine a world with where it was Belgian (think their behaviour in the Congo), Russian, Chinese or (Lord forbid) Islamic values were the norm. We, in our relatively safe, civilised nations look at this atrocity as just that. Others, elsewhere, see it as the same 'because' we insist they do. If China becomes Hegemon?

An ally and friend from the UK who blogs here said this, "If the US and the UK go down, we're finished. It's that simple." Well said.

Ride hard, guerrilla. The fight is by no means lost.

The Second Homily - 8 Mile

The Second Homily - Paras doing their thing in Helmand with some help by famed Detroit rocker Eminem. 8 Mile? Probably about the same kill rate, disturbingly.

Speaking of which, the Young Warrior's doing well in Korea and's just come off a field exercise, which included a shoot. He retained Expert Marksman. Well done, boy. Now get that degree and a commission, or not, your call.

Regardless, sorry, Paras, move over for the Glorious Gloucesters which, ahem, no longer exist. I'm not very happy about that, obviously, despite having command of a vastly successful and prestigious irregular cavalry unit. You want to argue? See the RHSM.

Think positive, raise the Black Flag and ride hard.

A Short Sunday Sermon - The Canaanite Women

And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

I found this short reflection on Sunday's Gospel helpful (Matthew 15:21-28):

What are the cries of the Canaanite woman if not a prayer to the Lord? What is her pursuit of Him if not a pivotal point in her life where she turns to His word? Her humility, her acceptance of the fact that, yes, she was an unworthy dog who was asking only for a few crumbs as a blessing, only what was left over from the table of the masters, what is that if not repentance and confession? And the final answer of the Lord is nothing other than His open embrace, God’s acquiescence in the face of unshakeable faith.
Today’s Gospel doesn’t merely tell us about a miracle performed by the Lord. It presents us with the way to approach the Lord, the only way by which we avoid the traps of the idols of this world and are able to cast ourselves, in tears, into the embrace of our Father. It presents us with how the Father operates in order to open to us the path of return to Him, without doing away with our freedom. It presents us with the face of our Saviour. It presents us with the way in which we must open our souls to His miraculous Grace. In other words, it presents us with the feast of our salvation... (Archbishop Christodoulos (Paraskevaïdis) of Athens (1998-2008, †)

And note the final verses of the miracle. Christ identifies the pagan and possibly occultist Canaanite as a "dog" but when she admits as much, "yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table," a remarkable thing happens. The dog becomes a woman, "O woman, great is thy faith." A miracle, the last has become the first, blessed are the poor in spirit, and the demon is driven away.

We are the spiritual heirs of this woman. By the grace of God, may the quality of her faith be our own so that we too, with her, will be raised up to the full stature of sons and daughters of God, and the evil which afflicts us banished to the Pit from whence it came.

The Feast of the Assumption

It's the great Feast of the Assumption today, which some people object to because "it's not in Scripture." Neither is Sola Scriptura of course, but apologetics aside, I found this reflection helpful. Via Domini res gestas:

Today the Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, Theotocos and Christotocos, is taken into heaven to that court where the King of kings sits upon his starry throne. While angels and saints rejoice together with Christ, it is fitting that we too celebrate and rejoice with them today. Our true Solomon, the King of Peace, seats his Mother, the true Bathsheba, at his right hand today in the heavenly Jerusalem above all the choirs of angels. Today the ark of the covenant of the Lord is brought into the temple and placed in the Holy of Holies. This is the same ark that John saw in the Book of Revelation. Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of the covenant could be seen in the temple.  After writing this at the close of Chapter 11, as if to clarify the vision, he follows it immediately with the opening verse of Chapter 12:
A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon was under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. Without doubt this woman is the Virgin Mary, for John adds that she gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all nations... Her child was caught up to God and his throne. (St. Laurence Brindisi)

Note Serpent and Crescent crushed underheel

A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon was under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. I should be very wary of going up against that, to say nothing of her child. But here's a closing hymn from the Benedictines of Notre Dame de Fontgombault, Ave Maris Stella, Hail Star of the Sea:

Some say the Faith's dead. That's not true, though perhaps it's hiding, for a time.

Back in Dallas

What's Dallas like in the August of Plague Year 2020? Good question, and I drove to the Metrosprawl to find out. First things first, it's really hot, like an oven. The kind of heat which makes even the coolest perspire. Think FBI Koup Konspirators in the face of Clinesmith.

Oh dear, Nemesis meet Hubris and we have to ask, what kind of plea deal has corrupt lib lawyer Clinesmith cut by way of survival? Time will tell and Comey, Clapper, Brennan et al seem mighty quiet right about now. No wonder, the heat's on.

But Ma LSP's place is refreshingly cool. The garden flourishes, flags wave along with refreshing drinks and a newly cleaned 19th C runner. I think it's Caucasian, but I've forgotten my rug lore. Whatever, out it popped. Nice.

And there you have it. We're off to a friend's ordination tomorrow morning. Well done, MR, you're a brave man to answer the call at this point in time.

Cheers,

Today's toytown revolutionaries might want to watch this short informational video. And note, if it goes hot in the US there won't be rules of engagement.
