Hail Christopher Lee

We know this rightly acclaimed actor for his commanding presence and aura on the silver screen, where this horror legend often played the part of diabolic, supernatural, occult villains such as Dracula. But Lee was more than an actor.

He was a direct descendant of the Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne, an Anglo-Catholic(!), and a knowledgeable student of the occult, who felt the Wicker Man his best movie and Lord Summerisle his favorite part. He had this to say about diabolism:

I have met people who claim to be Satanists, who claim to be involved with black magic, who claimed that they not only knew a lot about it. But as I said, I certainly have not been involved and I warn all of you: never, never, never. You will not only lose your mind: you lose your soul.

He wasn't joking. Lee was also famous for his love of Metal, far out, and released several albums in that genre, such as Charlamagne, Omens of Death. He notoriously favored a double breasted blazer, for which we at the Compound applaud him.

Hail Christopher Lee,

He was a very good actor. I always associate him with Hammer Films, but I'm not sure if he was in any.
"The Wicker Man" scared the daylights out of me the first time I saw. Just sent a chill up my spine. The only reason I watched it was that I'm a fan of Edward Woodward form "The Equalizer". I'd already watched "Breaker Morant", and a few others I enjoyed.

He played a lot of Hammer Dracula rolls.

There's a story that Peter Jackson, during the filming of "The Two Towers," told Christopher to imagine shoving a knife between someone's ribs. Christopher, of course, said he didn't have to imagine, having actually done that to actual Nazis.

Great actor. Not fond of his heavy metal voice, liking symphonic or lyrical metal myself.

But, yeah, definite candidate for "The Most Interesting Man in the World" dead or alive.

Christopher Lee volunteered to fight for Finland against the Soviets, but was disillusioned when the British volunteers were not allowed to go the front because they couldn't ski. In WW2 he was attached to British Special Forces but always refused to talk about it. It is rumoured to have been rather kinetic. He attended St Stephen's Church, South Kensington where he was an adult altar server. TS Eliot was one of the Church Wardens at the time. It is still a Society Church.

drjim, Wicker Man is genuinely scary. Lee was genius. Serious Christian, btw.

Sure did, Beans. Devil ides out, and all of that.

Beans, what can I say? Behold the genius of Christopher Lee. And yes, I think the Metal was a larf.

Most awesome, RHT.

Mr Anon, we stand in awe of Lee. Didn't know about the TSE angle, I always thought he went to the Clerkenwell place.

A classic video, Wild. Nice one. I understand his library was only 12,000 volumes instead of 50! He knew what he was talking about.
