Here we are, waiting on the epochal result of a General Election. Is our democratic republic at stake? Some say it is and with good cause. But whichever way it turns out, we have a history of standing up for freedom against tyranny. That's in the US DNA, I think, and to that end here's General Jeff Thompson:
When I give the word boys, let it rip, and that's exactly what they did. So get out there and vote against evil and let the die fall where it will, we'll deal with it ensuing.
I wish I was in Dixie and hey, so does a massive chunk of California, Alberta and everywhere else. But what am I saying, I am in Dixie and thank God for that. But what do you know about Dixie, so-called "LSP," if that's your real name, which we doubt, aren't you a Brit?
Yes, famously, but not so fast, loyal Sons of the South, Ma LSP's people helped settle Denton, Jagoe style. Is Texanicity determined by... female bloodline? Yeah it is, everyone knows this, and you can imagine raised eyebrows when she married a Yankee and went to England on theQueen Mary France. Think, back when travel was civilized.
turn it up
Speaking of which, I recall an afternoon at the Denton Country Club. There we were, sitting in some kind of attractively unreformed 1950s anteroom, full of club diners, nice. And what does Pa LSP do? Announce loudly, mas gusto, I think I'll vote Democrat. Per the fickle beast of memory, you could've heard a pin drop.
My, what an old terrorist! And he confessed, over whatever offerings the DCC happened to serve up on that teak paneled day, "The parties have reversed." Right on, Pops, good late '90s insight, but he was smart, Canon Theologian and all of that, he saw Dixie was right.
A massively racist 42 ton rock has been moved from the University of Wisconsin Madison's Chamberlin Hill, where it used to sit, oppressing persyns of color with its racism. According to students, the weighty pre-Cambrian glacial erratic would often hurl racist abuse.
"It was really offensive," stated one student, "Like, 'Look at me, I'm a rock. Who's smarter, me or you? Who's in debt for life on account of a pathetic trans theater degree, me or you?' Sometimes the rock would play Dukes of Hazard and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Once I heard it whistle Dixie. I didn't feel safe."
Unsafe
Here at the Compound we're glad the racist rock's been removed. One more monument to oppression gone, and not before time. Juliana Bennett, a senior and a campus representative on the Madison City Council shows zhir relief:
“This moment is about the students, past and present, that relentlessly advocated for the removal of this racist monument. Now is a moment for all of us BIPOC students to breathe a sigh of relief, to be proud of our endurance, and to begin healing.”
Hmmmm. Same Old Hippie
Well said, Julia. Now that the crushingly racist rock's removed we can all begin to heal, and breathe.
There's talk in some cities, including Dallas, believe it or not, of removing or relocating Confederate monuments. You don't hear that kind of talk here in the country.
I spotted this flag on the way to Mass.
Look, here's another.
And here's some more!
There are no plans to remove the Confederate war memorial in this town. That particular flag's simply not going to fly here and who knows, if you swing by the Compound you might get to use these helpful plates.
Levity aside, those who fought hard and honorably for states rights and their homeland deserve our respect, even if you consider the endeavor misguided. The victorious North, at the end of the war, recognized that much.
While pondering magnanimity, reflect on this.
It's a near universal truth that whatever the progleft implements produces the exact opposite of its intended result. People fooling with monuments in search of cheap votes might want to take note.
Have a great Memorial Day. Respect and honor to the fallen. I'll be grilling burgers at the Dallas compound. Stand up for freedom and against oppression. State's Rights and God bless, LSP
