SUDS Training

Texas is mostly about cavalry, but that doesn't mean we're afraid to get our feet wet, especially at the SUDS (Soapy Underwater Distraction Squad) course in Glen Rose.

Land Nav

Recruits go through a grueling selection process consisting of swimming, navigation and rock climbing on the Paluxy river.

Climbing

They can wash out at any time, or they can push through and complete the course. That choice is up to them, they have to want to do it. It's not easy, especially with the lure of fossilized human footprints reflecting the light of creation.

Learning to Swim

Don't be surprised if SUDS candidates fall asleep, exhausted, on the transport back to base. After all, they've earned it.

EndEx

So check out the Dinosaur State Park at Glen Rose. Big fun.

Cheers,

LSP

That first pic reminds me of playing in the creek at Salado, long before it became the tourist trap it is now. Sure, it had some boutiques and the Stagecoach Inn, but not all the outlet malls yet.

it's tuff what we have to go through...

It appears that all of the aquatic dinosaurs lost, and the heroes (though exhausted through super human effort) prevailed.

When I first saw your title in my Feedly, I thought, "He's giving them beer now?" What does that say about me?

Looks like a bunch of healthy fun and reminds me of how I grew up. It also made me want to head down to the Spokane river this after noon.

I've only seen Saledo from I35, Mattexian, but I was surprised at the Dinosaur Park -- we had a great day out and for sure, very unspoiled.

No gain without pain, James.

The heroes prevailed, LL!

I do like an ice cold beer now and again, Adrienne...

But the river was neat -- I hadn't been there before and was very happily surprised at how good it was.
