Dr. Seuss Is So Very, Very Racist

Thanks to Liz Phipps Soiero, the whole world knows that Dr. Suess books are insufferably racist. That's why Soiero, a Cambridge, Massachusetts school librarian, rejected Melania's kind book bundle of Seuss' classic treatise on white supremacy, "Oh, The Places You'll Go!"

The problem, according to Soiero, is that Seuss' characters are "minstrelsy," and "steeped in racist propoganda." Minstrelsy? Yes indeed, that's because they often wear bow ties, just like those famous racists, Porky the Pig and Boo Boo the Bear. Mark Steyn actually bothered to do the research, looking up Soeiro's source text, an article in  the Journal of Social Justice Librarians. Here he is, on Tucker Carlson Tonight.

The piece argues that the Cat in the Hat’s bow tie is meant to be an evocation of 19th-century racist minstrel shows. Now just off the top of my head, cartoon characters who wear bow ties — Porky Pig, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Huckleberry Hound. Yogi Bear doesn’t wear a bow, he wears a tie like me, but his boy sidekick Boo Boo the Bear wears a bow tie.

Ambrosia, I think the name is, in ‘My Little Pony’ wears a bow tie. I’m not one of the many men in the western world who are obsessed with ‘My Little Pony’ and have ‘My Little Pony’ parties, but I happen to know this one character in ‘My Little Pony’ wears a bow tie. Cartoon characters wear bow ties. That has nothing to do the minstrel shows. We are making ourselves a society too stupid to survive...

We are making ourselves a society too stupid to survive, says the apocalyptic Steyn and he has an evident point. My Little Pony, how minstrelsy. But mind-bending dimwittedness aside, let's not forget hypocrisy. You see, Soiero likes dressing up as a Dr. Seuss character. This is her in 2015.

Who knows, maybe the enlightened librarian has repented of her racist, minstrelsy, Seussian past. On the other hand, perhaps she simply hates America's attractive and glamorous First Lady and her husband. Imagine Soeiro's reaction if Michelle Obama had sent the book bundle.

Go ahead, try that hat on for size.

Your Old Friend,

This hats can also be worn by Waldo (a white male) in the "Where's Waldo" series, popular with children. In the Where's Waldo books, children are challenged to find the white male in a sea of non-white males...or so they say. The bow tie is interesting because many homosexual males attending the Hollywood award shows wear them! Maybe the librarian is homophobic?

What a bunch of idiots.

LL, some say that bow ties are the "uniform of the homosexual." Well heck, Ambrosia wears one, so maybe they have a point. They're not allowed in the DLC, obviously.

But bhat does that make Soeiro? Note that Obama's stepfather's name is Sotero. Coincidence?

She may indeed be Barack's step-relative in a Buddhist reincarnated way?

Barry went to school under the name BARRY SOETORO. His Indonesian passport that he presented to get student aid while attending university in the US had the same name on it.

A unicorn with a bow tie is progressive. No two ways about it. I don't care what Barack's librarian friend says.

Well easier challenging Dr Seuss than taking on the Klan.

I know some good games we can play,
I know some new tricks
With a nose and a hat
Come hither, young Lizzie
I want to get busy
My bow tie is spinning with what I can do
To make you black and blue
And rid you of minstrely hullabaloo!

Don’t let this woman ever come to England where we have Zippy wanting to play with George’s balls and Captain Pugwash and his relationship Seaman Stains….

Minstrely…. I detest these ridiculous people.

I have been saying that same thing for a while now and totally agree.
The ignorance of some people now days is unbelievable.

"The mayor of Springfield, Massachusetts – the hometown of Dr. Seuss (born Theodor Geisel) – was not amused.
"'One fish - two fish - red fish - blue fish' - I think her comments 'stink' and are ridiculous towards our beloved Dr. Seuss," Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno said in a press release Thursday evening, according to "Her comments that this is 'racist propaganda and that Dr. Seuss is a bit of a cliche and a tired and worn ambassador for children's literature' is 'political correctness' at its worst."

And I don't think anyone else is amused either.

Let's just get right down to my usual shallow appearance centered screed on this odious woman (not sure about the woman part.)

Yeah - let's do a TED talk dressed in a puce colored skirt (ewwwwwwwww), clunky hippie sandals, greasy hair slicked back and worn in braided pigtails to better show off the doughnuts, left over from the after church coffee klatch, hanging from her ears, and visible tattoos on her bare legs.

Instead of setting a good example she hangs out in her posh school library dressed in ripped jeans and tacky T-shirts thinking she's bonding with the kids, while she defends the homosexual lifestyle and every other SJW crap position she can spew forth.

I don't usually think people should be fired for a misstep, but in this case she should be ushered out the back door in the dead of night and vanish from the public eye.

Was Michelle Obama a triplet?

Thing 1 and Thing 2 in the picture with her look a lot like her if you imagine them with black hair.

Juliette, what excellent Seussian verse! And I'd forgotten about Captain Pugwash and, ahem, the Seaman.

As for minstrelsy, well, who knew? Apart from Dr. Seuss, the notorious bow tied racist.

LSP said...

LL, you make an excellent point. Barry did go by SOTERO and I'd be surprised if bow ties weren't involved. He then proceeds to marry "Michelle", a self-evidently Seussian character.

Minstrelsy? Sure looks that way to me.

Steyn certainly has a way with words, Linda!

Adrienne, the unfortunately dressed SOEIRO, nice "tatts", has deleted her Twitter account. I get the feeling that that's possibly the first of several dominoes to fall. And, let's be fair, she shouldn't dress up like a Seuss character one day and rip the Doctor for being a racist the next. And she's a Chavista.

Maybe SOEIRO needs to emigrate.

Just a thought.

LSP said...

Lukeya, time to bin all those minstrelsy bow ties. You know it makes sense.

"Far easier than taking on the Klan." Anonymous, I couldn't agree more. Of course cartoons can't fight back, unlike Melania, who can and does. Not a smart move, young Lizzie Soeiro.
