The operation got on the road to Burleson on Monday to take care of business. And so, to pass I35W time, I crunched the numbers and discovered that I was, bizarrely, 58 on that very same day. Here's the complex math: 2023-1965 = x. Tricky, isn't it, and hint, 59 ≠ x.
I know, that's pretty racist but there you have it, mathematics. Bottom line accountancy satisfied, business concluded to mutual benefit, Thai curry consumed, yum, and it was back on the road to the Compound where...
There was a dog on the porch and a grinning soldier. "Happy birthday, dad. We interviewed a number of dogs and figured this one was best. Look, he's part Ridgeback, and you love Rhodesia. He doesn't even bark."
Moving, eh? The kid had gone off to the pound and found a dog for his dad, with attention to breed(s) and demeanor. Well, there it is, the Compound has a new rescue dog and he's a good boy, part Ridgeback, part Heeler, part something else, maybe Lab and/or Pyrenees?
Regardless, what shall we call him? The pound called him "Chester," which obviously won't do. Perhaps Rhodie? But hey, all suggestions welcome.
Hope you're having big fun today as we celebrate our freedom.

we had a roadie for 12 years until cancer got him. a damn good dog. called our boy slim as he was so thin he could slip thru the fence. but inside of 3 months he was near his real weight. like 110 pounds when we put him down. great with kids, any kids. adults not so much.
you couldn't ask for a better watch dog. he didn't like rain at all. but snow ? we had to drag his frozen ass in and he would flop in front of the wood stove until he warmed up and want to go play in the snow again. he is missed by all here still, going on 3 years now.
roadies are great dogs.
Cheddar, aka Sheader. Color and hair.
Congratulations on a new companion and another trip around the sun!
Call him Keeper, because he is.
Good job, Soldier!
I like WSF's name for him.
"Lucky Boy"
Well, Rhodesia Ridgeback... let's see. Selous? Scout?
Nice looking dog, by the way. He looks like a good boy.
Chris or Schollie after Chris Schollenberg? Pamwe or Chete? Maybe Skuzapo.
Whatever you choose, he's got a good master.
If you're really stuck, you might consider calling him 'Argus'.

Happy (belated) birthday LSP.
That's a nice looking dog and he looks happy to be at his new home!
Call him Roadie? (Short for Rhodesia)
Texas dog, yes?
Houston.
Travis.
Bowie.
Crockett.
Bonham.
Congratulations! I think Chester could be short for G,K. Chesterton, a good choice .

Happy Birthday LSP!

Indeed, a belated Happy birthday!
I like the name Sam. Later in life my dad had a dog named Sam. His second wife picked him (the dog) out of a liter in front of a grocery store. She picked him up to hold him and that did it. He was a German Shepard/Afghan mix. I called him the "Hippie Shepard" because of the blond locks of hair hanging from his ears. Wonderful personality, loved everyone, protective of little kids, escape artist. He could smell you thinking about cheese.
Texas dog, yes? Houston. Travis. Bowie. Crockett. Bonham.
Excellent choices.
Also: Johnston (Albert Sidney), Eisenhower (Ike), Nimitz, Truscott
Happy (belated) birthday LSP! Hope it was a good one with many more to come!
He's beautiful! Call him Rocky or Rock for St. Roch.
If you look at Fr Z's blog (see right margin), I think the fictional rectory dog of the fictional bishop is named Chester.
Thanks for all the comments, what good suggestions! Turns out, after a few days at the Compound that he fits right in and, to be honest, should be called "Big Baby", though he goes cats, but I think his name's Rhodie. He seems to like it.
LL suggested Simba, which is also appropriate and awesome. Maybe one name is two names. Hmmmmm.
Cheers.
