The Old Guns Of Ukraine

Fun to Shoot

As if the names of titanic battles and appalling atrocity, Kharkov, Lvov and on weren't enough, ancient weapons are finding their way onto the battlefields of yesteryear. Like the Maxim machine gun, have a look.

Twin Maxims Modern Optic, Not Shabby

Or the PPS-43

Still Going Strong, Note Rifle On Sandbag

The PPSH-41

I Want One

And the venerable Mosin Nagant

Still Running

Even MP 40s

Excuse Me What?!?

Thompsons

Most Awesome

Degtyaryovs

Iconic

Question. How long would modern weapons systems last on today's battlefield before combatants resorted to simpler things of an earlier age? Preppers take note, don't scorn the humble trebuchet and pipe canon.

Cheers,

LSP

I'll give ya $500 for the Papa-Sha, Rev, and not back out.
$450 for the PPS-43.

The first time I saw this, I was OK until I sat up and pointed, "Lewis guns! They've got Lewis guns!" Utility indeed.

Just because they are old doesn't mean they won't get the job done!

Works for me, as long as you can keep them fed!

No background checks on those babies.

Question, the photo with the Thompsons seems to have a copyright tag
from LAPD. Could you comment on that?

Trebuchet is a fine weapon, but it takes a fairly large crew and throws truly massive projectiles. Unless you are trying to bring down castle walls this might not be a good bet.

A ballista is more reasonable weapon for a small crew of 2 or 3, and the projectiles are more reasonable.

The Thompsons shown are semi-autos. Look at the long barrels.

LSP said...

1chota, they're also NOT in the Ukraine but LA. I should've looked more closely...

LSP said...

Now that, Zendo, is an excellent call.

LSP said...

Well spotted, Ritchie. I was fooled. The guns come from a big bust in Bel Air. That said, there must be more than a few warehouses full of lend lease Thompsons. Hmmmm.

"Antique & Curio", Pewster.

Just laughed, Ed.

Sorry to say, they were mostly deommissioned in the early 80s. I had the SLJ to transfer 500 M1A1 and 950 M3A1 to the grinder. Talk about a crime against humanity.
