Debt Star

Something cheerful, via ZeroHedge:

Mounting debt generates its own limit: insolvency. Demographics shaped by the transfer state compound the problem. Stealing the fruits of labor penalizes honest productivity and constricts opportunity. Faced with bleak prospects, many of the young opt out of the financial obligations of starting families, rearing children, or even supporting themselves. Birthrates have dropped far below replacement in most developed countries: fewer people to fund taxes and debt just as the number of putative beneficiaries skyrocket. Pension shortfalls around the world are the canary in this coal mine. The mathematics are inescapable. Present arrangements are unsustainable, but will continue until debt markets and taxpayers rebel.

They will face a counter-rebellion by dependency-warped recipients deprived of that which was never really theirs. Those who can but don’t honestly produce are both dishonest and unproductive. Faced with a cut-off, expect chaos and violence.

You have been warned.

Storm Clouds

I went to Walmart to conduct some business, and by the time I left storm clouds had rolled in, like a metaphor for Western culture itself.

Perhaps you remember the lyrics of a '70s pop song, "Your future dream is a shopping scheme"? For "shopping scheme" read "strip mall," and it looks as though those are about to get washed away in the flood of peak retail meets static and declining wages, monster debt and the voracious maw of Big Government. I guess they'll be replaced by Dollar Stores, tire shops and Quinceanera vendors.

But maybe that's OK, maybe a society that's lost touch with reality, to the extent that it thinks gender is a mental construct, can go on forever until it rests in a golden trans utopia of frolicking rainbow unicorns. Who knows, perhaps a culture that actively encourages and subsidizes killing children in the womb, to the tune of $1 million a day, won't somehow commit demographic suicide.

Then again, others believe that as it was in days of Belshazzar, the writing's on the wall.

No Gods, No Masters!

Being a simple country padre, who likes to ride, shoot and get out in the field against the menacing doves, coyotes and, opportunity permitting, hogs, I wasn't aware that Margaret Sanger's Planned Parenthood received millions of dollars every year from Uncle Sam. A little under a million dollars a day, according to CNS and no wonder, Planned Parenthood performed 332,378 abortions in 2009, or around one "termination" for every two seconds of every day in the year. That's a pretty high volume service to the public; just think of all those children who would otherwise be running around if it weren't for PP's taxpayer subsidy.

By way of interest, Sanger, who coined the phrase that a woman should be "absolute mistress of her own body" as well as that old classic, "No Gods, No Masters!" is avidly supported by the same team who brought The Episcopal Church (TEC) and it's little sister, the Anglican Church of Canada (ACoC), women priests and bishops.

Enthusiastic efforts to keep the population down have done both denominations a power of good. England looks set to follow suit.

In the meanwhile, birth rates are falling to below replacement level; whence the urge to demographic suicide?

Stock Tank Plinker

Finally broke free of Dallas and headed off to the country, where it smells better, you can ride arabian horses and plink about at stock tanks, which is what I did.

Good to get back on the horses, though the one I was riding seemed to think she was through about half way through the ride... some say this is common. Regardless, she changed her mind and we had a good canter about. Most enjoyable.

Afterwards stopped at a roadside Mexican place called 'Karen's', oddly. Senora Karen served an excellent brisket and bean tortilla; I never knew there was such a thing - and now I'm glad I do.

More seriously, and you'll forgive me for dredging up old news, but why is it that the MSM near enough refuse to acknowledge religious motivation to the Fort Hood shooter? Are they right to do this? Perhaps they're being 'strategic' and acting in some veiled kind of way to defend the country? Again, maybe shouting the Islamic war cry before killing people has nothing to do with religion. Or is it simply the case that we've lost confidence in our culture to such an extent that we're unable to rise to the challenge of an ideology implacably opposed to ours and pretend it just isn't there.

Forgive the lack of levity, on a happier note, have a blessed Feast of St. Edmund.

Old? Wounded? Time To Go.

The fate of the U.K's elderly, VOTR

I guess I was badly behind the news but it came as a bit of a shock to see that Oregon is all about helping old people to kill themselves. They call it "Death With Dignity." Surprising too that the same medicine has been suggested to returning veterans.

It seems that the U.K. is working hard to catch up. Thanks, Voice of the Resistance, for the post and graphic.

Christians and right thinking people are against suicide, assisted or otherwise.

European Death Wish

One of the interesting bylines of the dismally failing, alien driven, Ubuntuist secular humanist project, is European demographic suicide.

2.1 children per woman are needed to replace the existing population. In 2004 Germany's birthrate was 1.3, Italy's 1.2, Spain's 1.1, Italy's 1.2, France's 1.7 and so one, with 18 countries in the E.U. failing to reproduce at replacement rate. This will mean, amongst other things, that over 50% of the European populace will be will be at, or over, retirement age by mid-century, supported by a shrinking workforce. Pundits, such as Mark Steyn, predict the collapse of current social programs and the advent of "Eurabia".

Perhaps Steyn is right, but one thing's certain, we're witnessing a crisis of Western civilisational morale - the demographics listed above represent a greater population decline than at any time since the Black Death. Why has this come about?

George Weigel, in the fortunately easy to read "The Cube and the Cathedral" (see picture of neo-brutalist 'Cube' above), believes World War One acted as a sort of catalyst for various destructive currents of thought - he lists Comte, Fuerbach, Nietzche, and others, while quoting Solzhenitsyn:

"That war (WWI)... took place when Europe, bursting with health and abundance, fell into a rage of self-mutilation that could not but sap its strength for a century or more, perhaps forever. The only possible explanation for this is a mental eclipse among the leaders of Europe due to their lost awareness of a Supreme Power over them... Only the loss of that higher intuition which comes from God could have allowed the West to accept calmly, after World War I, the protracted agony of Russia as she was being torn apart by a band of cannibals."

Powerful words and, I think, true. What's needed, according to Weigel and Benedictus XVI, is a recovery of the value posited by the authour of Gulag Archepeligo et al. I would agree, but what do I know? I'm just a country LSP.

Anyway, off to make a dent in the hog demographic tomorrow - setting up at first light with enough weaponry to take on what's left of the British Army.
