Under The Knife

0430. Get up. Feed the Blue, hop into a waiting Uber and head North  to Dallas' famed Preston Plaza. But why do such a thing at such an ungodly hour? Because I had to get an inguinal hernia fixed at the Plaza's surgery center and was first on the list.

We got there early, which gave me time to scope out the renowned plaza. "Not so much a plaza as a car park," I thought grimly to myself, staring at empty lots overlooked by medium rise, black glass offices, one being the surgery center.

0600. March promptly into the medicos, sign some papers, put on a made in China mask, because Science, and before you know it you're in a hospital bed waiting for anesthetic and surgery. I didn't have to wait long and enjoyed a short prayer with the surgeon, what a good man. Then next thing you know it's 0930, the procedure's done,  and it's time to go back to Ma LSP's. So quick.

So there you have it, Tuesday morning under the knife and now a few days off in Dallas. Thanks Doctor, and associated team.

God bless,

LSP

Glad to hear all went well and you are on the mend. Today was my last of 44 radiation treatments (for prostate cancer). Spring Creek BBQ beckons!

We are winning.

No heavy lifting, thankfully the Eucharist is light. Oh, and that teal bracelet, need that exact color for the '56 Shasta camper. Vintage, like me.

Heal quickly.

Geez RHT447, praying you're in the clear.

Get well soon. Stay away from lewd women - no trapeze work until you're cleared for it.

Had one of those three years ago, Parson. I stood up from the kitchen table after consuming a bologna sandwich and thought my wife had finally had enough and knifed me. Yikes. It weren't any fun, that's for sure.

RHT, wowzer, hope that gets you fixed up.

Sounds like it went well! I'm familiar with the procedure, having had 3, once at age 5 , then the other side 20 years ago and needing a revision this year. What fun, I don't recommend repeats!

Hope you feel better. Hernias are not fun.

@ Paul M and WWW, Thanks. So far, so good. P.E.T. scan showed clear, no spread. 44 treatments because they spread it out. Each dose is minimal. As I told my doc, can't really point to any side effects. Maybe some mild fatigue, maybe because I mowed the lawn that morning. In Texas.

Only real side effects are hot flashes from the testosterone blocker, which I will be on for two years. As doc explained it, any potential cancer cells starve without testosterone and pretty much self destruct when they try to divide.

As I'm sure LSP can attest, I was likely more at risk during the 30 mile round trip each week day on Hwy 20 from Arlington to Benbrook. On one return trip, suddenly smoke, dust, brake lights, and evasive maneuvers about 100 yards in front of us. As we went by, a pickup had made it to the emergency lane, just. Left front wheel was gone, groove carved in the pavement by the brake rotor. No idea where the wheel went, maybe over the guard rail and down in the creek. So yeah, today I don't have to drive ANYWHERE.
