I live in Kansas City and grew up in SE Texas, so I've driven through all of those places a hundred times or more. Sadly, the Indian smoke shop and the knife-and-gun place are gone.
Haven't been through there in ages. Curiously, the family had a ranch on the Red River, which I remember from the early '70s. Then they sold it, dammit.

And it's weird, but two of my sisters have this thing for places like Choctaw. We all went there one national holiday and had fun. Hmmmm.

I grew up, in part, on a ranch between Roff and Fittstown, OK. When I heard this song, I thought James McMurtry had met my family.
