If anyone doubts that America has a serious problem in any one of its many urban hellholes, they should look at Baltimore.
The only question is where next. Detroit, Chicago, DC, Gary, LA, St. Louis, New York, Philadelphia? The list goes on.
In the meanwhile, the National Guard has deployed to Baltimore's Inner Harbor and elsewhere in the city. So if the purpose of yesterday's looting, arson and rioting was less aggressive policing, I'd say it scored an own goal.
Maybe it won't.

They need to import Korean shop owners into Baltimore. They'd stack them up like cordwood with scoped rifles fired from the roofs of their stores. Although that's not "progressive" it can't be racist because white people aren't involved.
I've heard that Koreans don't like having their businesses looted and burned down.
Though I wholeheartedly disagree with wonton rioting and looting, I also strongly disagree with police brutality and incompetence. A person's rap sheet is not necessarily the sum result of their current possible crime, which still requires a Constitutional trail by jury, not trial by pissed off cop.
No one ever seems to point out that as size and scope of police forces climbs, so does crime, and vice versa. Obviously, one is not solving the other.
The US has more laws and law breakers than any other country in the world by a grand majority. It also has the highest per capita incarceration rate, and yet no relief in sight. Something is obviously wrong, and the aforementioned Koreans should be looked upon for the answer, not more government (and erroneous laws, and more cops to enforce said erroneous laws, etc. ad infinitem...)
I think the Koreans might be an elegant solution, Resisting.
I give America ten more years before the powerkeg explodes.
If you want to see the future of America look to Northern Ireland. We are going to have 30 years of bombings, assassinations, paramilitary groups, cease fires, paramilitary groups splitting off and not accepting ceasefires, people woken up in the middle of the night and shot in the head.
But perhaps I am being pessimistic.
I think "powder keg" is right, Infidel, and maybe your timeline. Things are very badly broken.
I've also thought of the N Ireland parallel. This would be more racial than religious, but still...
Let's hope it doesn't happen.
Out of interest, my Father and his priest/professor friends, thought things would reach a point in the mid/late '70s.
In a sense they were right.
Perhaps liturgical dance will save us.
