Cat From Hue

A kind reader of this inconsequential mind blog sent me a book, The Cat From Hue. He was, forgive me if I'm wrong, trying to make sense of the Vietnam conflict as was the author himself, a CBS journalist who got right in the thick of things. Like no fooling.

And what things they were. The book starts off in 1965 and moves from there to Tet and I'm struck by the no-nonsense of the prose, the bravery of the reporters and the men they cover. Also, and this stands out, the number of WWII and Korean vets in the story.

There they were, on their third war, yes, people who'd seen action at Bastogne and Imjin equivalents. I don't dare comment except to say that this is an outstanding book written by a good man. Read it, you won't be disappointedThe Cat From Hue.

Queen Elizabeth II Lies in State in Scotland

People forget that Great Britain, in itself, is an Empire, the centralized power of Scotland, Wales, England and, tenuously, Ireland. Knowing this, Her Majesty lay in state in Edinburgh tonight.

Later, her body will be brought to Westminster Abbey where many thousands will line up around the block to pay their respects. And what respect it is.

HRH Elizabeth II embodied privilege and with it, service. That's the equation and she most evidently worked the solution. Result? The people loved her. Moral?

No one likes or loves the grifting, get rich quick, MillSoc mountebank, snake oil sales fools who run our country. Imagine, if you can, their funerals. Mall. Lampost. Noose.

Broumas Memorial Park

Well it's all fine and dandy until a literal TANK starts rolling. I know you know, but there it is, these massive beasts, rolling on, and utter respect to LT. COL Broumas. He died in '69 with a chestful of medals and grateful vets set up a memorial park in Fort Hood. Look, here's a Priest:

And a tank. Note the Fiddy

Low Pro? Yet another Fiddy (above) and some typical Sov rubbish from Iraq. Check it out:

Jagdpanzers in UKR? Still, what a massive beast. But I like this little fella, handy range taxi, eh?

Panzers roll,

D-Day

There we were in the sacristy, getting ready for Mass. "What day is it, Padre?" asked the MC. "It's the second Sunday after Pentecost or Corpus Christi transferred," I replied, quick as you like but missing the point. "No, what happened on this day, 1944?"

D-Day happened, and we stopped for a moment, silent, struck by the thought of all those kids who gave their lives. Words fail, at least for me. So we prayed for the fallen and gave thanks for the victory.

Honor the men who stormed those beaches by standing fast for what's right and true. Here endeth the lesson.

God bless,

Veterans Day

Almighty God, we commend to thy gracious care and keeping all who have served and are serving in our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with thy heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of thine abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

And may God bless you all,

Gurkhas!

Some say the British Army's dead and buried beneath cuts, the thudding hooves of the rainbow unicorn and BBC, Islington millionaire socialism. But that's not entirely true.

The Brigade of Gurkhas, dam its colonialist soul, has had its largest intake of recruits in over three decades. You might enjoy their passing out parade.

Open borders, all six of you readers, is a qualified thing.
