It's all go here, I tell you. Monday meant a trip to the 'burbs to meet with lawyers and it went pretty well, in an all day kind of way. Before that I stopped at a Starbucks by the highway for coffee.

So that was Monday, Tuesday was different again and involved driving to the corner of Greenville and Mockingbird from Dallas HQ to see Janey Tailor. Janey Tailor promises to work Korean magic on some old suits, let's see how that goes.

And today? A trip to Ray's gun shop, it's an institution, and a strangely cheap CZ Drake O/U 20. We'll see how it shoots. Back in the country now, where the air is clean.

Good on the CZ, mebbe it’ll be a dove gettr due to the abysmal state of the quail population.....I credit the invasion of hogs on the poor quail numbers, but Turkey population seem not affected..... so maybe my theorem of predation on ground nester clutches is like all that comes out of Austin.....just a bunch of phooey.... anyway, keep on keeping on brother, that’s about all we can do considering the sorry state of affairs...

My one and only bird hunt was with a borrowed single shot 20 gauge. I saw a pheasant running and took the shot. My companions chastised me. Shoot them only when the bird is flying, they said. End of the day we had one pheasant. Beat me, I'm a subsistence hunter and fisherman.
My sister uses her shotgun to remove snow from tree branches.

Reminds me of how much I hate the shooting culture over here. No one shoots anything other than 12s - even the ladies. I so much prefer the sub-gauges: 20s, 28s, .410s - they're just so much more elegant to shoot (as well as saving your shoulder). The bird doesn't care what gauge you shoot it with. Part of the reason I've basically dropped shooting and switched to riding/fox hunting.
Did you take the POC home with you?
Oh yes, LL. He's now gainfully employed on the estate, "Chop, chop, that crop's not going to pick itself!"

And I'm pretty much with you on the 12/20 thing. That said, perhaps the 12 makes more sense in pheasant/duck land?
Whatev, well done on the riding/hunting! What a great sport but don't imitate me and get thrown by a Mad Arab. Saying that, I'll be taking it up again shortly (have access to some seriously good horses). And wish we could hunt Irish style, maybe after coyotes :)

Thanks, WSF, I'll be trying it out today, and nice pheasant story. Reminds me of a shoot a few years back. We were after hogs and saw a gang of turkeys doing their thing, so out we spilled from the truck, turkeys started to fly and a friend shot one... with a 30-06! Heckuvva shot.
Huh. I don't think turkey hunting's supposed to work that way.
Right on, Anon. I felt pretty guilty about the Star ripoff, have to say. Overpriced woke rubbish.
Then there's wing shooting. Let's see what happens when the season rolls around. Don't know about the quail thing except that they're great to hunt, especially with dogs, if you can find them, and that's a big if, annoyingly.
