Advent, the coming of Christ. Here's a prayer, from the 1928 BCP, obvs:
Almighty God, give us grace that we may cast away the
works of darkness, and put upon us the armor of light, now
in the time of this mortal life in which thy Son Jesus Christ
came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when
he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the
quick and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through
him who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

"think yourself exempt? maybe think again." Amen. The lack of a belief in Hell nowadays is amazing. Growing up in the 1960's, if someone in the sub didn't go to church on Sunday it was an oddity.
In happier news, the 2024 Christmas pudding was stirred up (Excita) yesterday by all present and is currently being steamed.
Up until a few years ago MrsPaulM and I would be diligently working on the Christmas Eve Contemplative Candlelight service theme and "feel"...not having that leaves a bit of an Advent "void", so to speak.
Needed this right now...the Holy Spirit does not disappoint. Thank you LSP.

A few years back I announced, at Ma LSP's Christmas table no less, "Kwanza's an invented holiday, a faked up fraud of a feast." Or something like that.Before you could load up, the two Democrats there fired up their phones and started "fact checking."
