When the Lee's Confederate Army marched through Maryland on the way to Sharpsburg (Antietam), they carried the Bonny Blue Flag and sang that song. Then Lee stopped them and told his troops to sing, "Maryland, My Maryland".
It was a horrible battle and I don't think that they sang much going back south. Such is the nature of war. But it's a great song from the War of Northern Aggression.
And LL, curious to see those Maryland graveyards with Confederate/Union graves in pretty equal measure. Coming from England I hadn't known that. Then I did.
