Lugers and Bass

When I was a child, please don't laugh, I wanted a Luger. I thought they looked cool. But I never got one and never fired one; outside of a museum I've barely even seen one. That's because they're ALL at Dallas' Jackson Armory. They have racks of Lugers. They have Lugers on the wall. They have regular, run 'o the mill Lugers and custom, specialty Lugers. They have a plastic box full of Lugers you can pick up and play with. Jackson Armory is, quite simply, the Luger motherlode. Some are cheap (under $1000) some are pricey, and there they are, for all the world to see, just off of Snider Plaza by SMU. Who knew?

JA also has plenty of Lees, Krags, M1s, M1As, custom ARs, swords, Winchester 99s, and hi-cal big game rifles at reasonable prices. You can walk in, browse and check out the weapons without being condescended to. I can't think of a better gun shop in North Texas, especially if you like older guns and militaria. I love Jackson Armory, but more of that in a separate post.

After the Luger shock and awefest I went fishing and caught four Bass. Rare for me to get out the rod, but I always enjoy it when I do.

Cheers,

LSP

I inherited a commercial Luger (made between the World Wars). It was in .30 but I think most of them are 9mm. I never got around to shooting it because .30 Luger ammo was rare and expensive. A few years later I went through a really rough patch of financial problems and had to sell a bunch of guns to catch up on the bills. One of them that went bye-bye was the Luger. 20 years later I'm still kinda bummed that I never shot it...

The armory does sound like a nice place to visit and the bass was certainly was a nice way to end.

I love Lugers too LSP. But you MUST wear the right cloth to go with them. Achtung Spitfeur.

As I'm sure you've sorted out by now I know nothing about guns.. GASP! lol However, that's one nice looking fish you've snagged for your dinner. By chance is that you holding the fish?

Have a g'day LSP (I'm learning Australian lingo now, when in Rome do as the Roman's do? I'm not too sure if this also means do as the Australians do or not... something I'm going to have to put some thought in to before I head back to Canada.) :-)

Sorry about that Luger, innominatus. I'd like one but... can't justify the expense. Jeff Cooper, interestingly, had a low opinion of them; thought they worked better as clubs than pistols!

The Bass was a great way to end the day, Rick.

Must go out fishing more often.

Have a great time in Australia, Darlin. I've always thought of it as a kind of English version of Texas... Safe trip back to Canada (it's me in the pic).

God bless.

This is interesting, comparing Australia to an English version of Texas. Now here's something for me to think about as I sit and see where my fate lies regarding my practicum, the bulk of it being completed, the balance of hours are hanging in the air so I'd best pull something out of the air before I head back to Canada.

Have a wonderful week LSP.
