It's all futile. We are heading inexorably towards musty, threadbare decline, European style. Like out cousins on the Olde Continent, we no longer even want to make babies.
Democrats dream of becoming Germany, with its collective union-owner-government business model and 70% overall tax rates.
What they fail to realize is that model won't work here. Germany has an efficient and honest government; ours is grotesquely wasteful and decadently corrupt.
Just like the Jewish people so long ago, we have asked that a King rule over us.

Someone once said "we're like the 18th C, but without the talent..." I'd say there's a truth in that, Silverfiddle.
And it's odd that we're trying to mimic Europe right at the point that their system seems about to implode -- Germany notwithstanding.
But there's another factor -- the US should be a net exporter of oil and gas by 2020, if not sooner. Might change everything. Except the corruption, of course.
