Benedict of Nursia

Have you heard of St. Benedict of Nursia? He was born in 480 AD and belonged to an illustrious Roman family who could trace their descent to the 4th century BC, the gens Anicia. A family which could boast of victorious generals, one was awarded a triumph in 184 BC, Consuls, Praetorian Prefects and, of course, senatorial status.

They were, it's claimed, the first senatorial family to convert to Christianity and went on to produce several short term emperors in the 5th century AD as well as popes, not least Gregory the Great. All this and more, imagine, if you can, their immense wealth, but back to Benedict.

The future saint went to Rome for his education and lived in one of the family's houses, perhaps on the Caelian Hill, where he would've received a classical education which, at that point, was very classical; rhetoric, grammar, philosophy, geometry(?) and all of that, no small thing. But, around the year 500 AD, during the reign of Theodoric, Benedict grew disgusted at the life of a wealthy Roman noble in the eternal city and moved from the metropolis to the country, to Enfide, some 40 miles distant.

Why did he do this? Because life in the big city contrasted, sharply, from his deeply held faith. Bear in mind, Rome at that point numbered around 300-400,000 people, and aristocratic bad behaviour was probably much as it ever has been and perhaps ever will be. Bear in mind, too, that this was the final period of Rome's classical grandeur before the Justinian reconquest of Italy ravaged the city in the following century.

Regardless, Benedict moves to the country to escape the wickedness of big city life. He leaves with his old nurse, whom he retains as a servant but, on performing a minor miracle, with all its subsequent notoriety, leaves Enfide and walks to nearby Subiaco (Sublaquem) where he sets up in a cave and becomes a hermit, practicing extreme asceticism. He goes on to found Western monasticism, but here's the thing.

The site of Benedict's cave was on the grounds of one of Nero's country villas, a vast arrangement of houses, baths and artificial lakes. This, curiously, had fallen into ruin by the 5th century and Benedict was, evidently, free to live there, devoting himself to holiness of life. Consider, all you pundits of late antiquity, the irony. Benedict forsook all worldy goods and ambition, and he was heir to plenty, to devote himself to the life in Christ. And he did so on the grounds of, I say again, one of NERO's villas.

This, to me, is remarkable and evidence of divine logic. From Subiaco, Benedict founds the great monastery of Monte Casino, and his famous Rule becomes the standard of Western monasticism in subsequent ages.

If you read Benedict's Rule several times over, and you should, the character of the saint begins to be revealed. Benedict is urbane, vastly civilized, and at the same time immensely practical, he's all about the right ordering of communities of Christian men in pursuit of holiness. There is, too, no mistaking a man to whom command is written into his DNA.

Crux sacra sit mihi lux, non draco sit mihi dux.

A Short Sunday Reflection

And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Mt. 22:11-13)

Ferocious words from Christ and perhaps they seem somehow unfair. After all, the man had been invited off the streets, no wonder he wasn't dressed up. But our Lord isn't talking salvation through haberdashery, he's addressing the state of a person's soul.

Is that clothed correctly? If it's not, if our hearts are full of darkness, of pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony, sloth and incumbent wickedness, then we have no part in the marriage feast; we can't participate or be a part of the celebration of the union of God and Man in Christ. On the contrary,  our home isn't in heaven, it's in the other place, the outer darkness where there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth, Hell.

So put on the wedding garment, all you who've answered the invite of the king and turned up at the feast which is the worship of the Church on earth and in heaven. Put on the garment or find yourself thrown out as a soul incompatible with divine love. But what is this garment?

St. Paul describes its character and quality, writing to the Philippians,  "...whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence..." Truth, honor, justice, purity, love, grace, excellence, these are the defining qualities of a soul fit for the feast. And they are the virtues of Christ himself. As the Apostle says elsewhere, we must "put on" Christ as a garment.

To that end, turn to our Savior in humble, repentant faith that he may clothe us in righteousness and admit us to the marriage feast of the Lamb, to paradise itself.

You'll note, Worldwide LSP Communion, that I am preaching to myself.

St. Benedict

It's the Feast of St. Benedict today, the founder of Western monasticism and, some would say, one of the saviors of the West itself. He died in 480 AD at the monastery of Monte Casino, the same place used as a stronghold by Nazis in WWII and subsequently destroyed at great cost.

This prayer's attributed to him, it's a form of exorcism:

Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux

Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux

Vade retro Satana

Nunquam suade mihi vana

Sunt mala quae libas.

Ipse venena bibas

Here's the initials, found on the medal itself, as an aide memoire: C S S M L – N D S M D, V R S N S M V – S M Q L I V B.

This prayer has great power. Use it.

St. Benedict, pray for us,

Once More Over The Rainbow

Do you remember SCOTUS nominee Ketanji Brown telling the world that she couldn't define what a woman was? Perhaps we shrugged our shoulders, rolled the proverbial eyeball and fired off a few rounds of precious 5.56. But not so fast.

Ketanji's inability or unwillingness to define womanhood  is mainstream, it's an accepted point of view. For example, USA Today, which is a kind of newspaper, is all in favor: Viz. Gender and biology are tangentially related at best. In other words, we don't know what a woman is.

Wow. Next step? We don't know what a human being is and lo and behold, it's a short skip and hop from that to putting inhuman cattle into boxcars for extinction. So shrug away and ignore the issue if you like but know this, we're dealing with evil, evil with which there can be no compromise.

Consider how the denial of truth in the name of tolerance leads to tyranny and oppression, the truth is what I decide it to be. This is evil and Rod Dreher nails it here. His conclusion:

And I am no longer willing to pretend that this is anything other than a religious war, and that what undergirds these battles over the definition of male and female, as well as the attempts by the ruling class to colonize the minds of children, is anything but satanic. There is no negotiating with this stuff.

Which side are you on? You will soon find that neutrality is not an option.

We've been saying this for years, here at the Compound, and note, Baphomet is trans.

Vade Retro Satana

Inspired by WSF and on the eve of a New Year, I offer this, from the St. Benedict medal, whose initials signify:

CRUX SACRA SIT MIHI LUX!

NUNQUAM DRACO SIT MIHI DUX!

VADE RETRO SATANA!

NUNQUAM SUADE MIHI VANA!

SUNT MALA QUAE LIBAS.

IPSE VENENA BIBAS!

And roughly translated:

The holy Cross shall be my light!

The Dragon shall never be my leader!

Get behind me Satan!

Never tempt me with vain conceit!

What you offer is evil.

Drink your own poison!

There's great power in the Latin verse, which is more than verse, an exorcism. We're in need of that, right about now.

Vade Retro Satana

It's been a little busy at the Compound with one thing or another, including a visiting seminarian. He's a good guy and we discussed the iniquity of the present age over delicious bean and brisket burritos from Karen's on the porch, and agreed that Satan was waxing strong.

To the point, I was struck by this, via Adrienne:

Lucifer has placed his stamp upon the present age. Open and secret revolt against God and His Church, the spirit of criticism, unbelief and immorality are spreading. The arrogant boast of Lucifer, "I will be like the Most High!" re-echoes everywhere. Puffed up with their discoveries and the progress in material science, men loudly proclaim their self-sufficiency and deny the existence of a Supreme Being. Governments and secret societies, plotting against God and striving to blot out from homes and schools, from offices and factories, all traces of Christianity, show plainly whose standard they follow. Never before in the world's history were God's rights so blasphemously mocked and denied, or the rights of man so arrogantly asserted, as they are today.

These frightful evils must convince us that we must turn to St. Michael, the Archangel, that glorious prince of Heaven who rendered all glory to God, conquering Lucifer and casting him into the abyss.

Already three centuries ago, St. Francis de Sales wrote: "Veneration of St. Michael is the great remedy against despising the rights of God, against insubordination, skepticism and infidelity" - vices which are perhaps more prevalent now than ever before.

Surely, it is time for Christians to "rise from sleep" and to offer vigorous resistance to the enemies of salvation. The weapons in this conflict are not the arms of civil warfare, but the spiritual weapons of prayer and penance, increased fidelity to the Commandments of God, and frequent reception of the Sacraments.  And surely we can choose no better leader in this conflict than the powerful captain who led the faithful Angels to victory.

Let us, then, with confident trust invoke the aid and protection of this mighty Archangel whose shield bears the inscription: MICHAEL -- "Quis ut Deus" -- Who is like unto God?

Rise from sleep and enlist the aid of the heavenly host and its archangelic prince, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (Eph. 6:12)

We are in a war, ultimately a spiritual one, of good v. evil, light v. dark. And victory is assured, in fact it's won, though the fight's ongoing. St. Benedict, the founder of Western monasticism, gives us a weapon to add to our spiritual armory with this powerfully short prayer:

CRUX SACRA SIT MIHI LUX / NON DRACO SIT MIHI DUX
VADE RETRO SATANA / NUNQUAM SUADE MIHI VANA
SUNT MALA QUAE LIBAS / IPSE VENENA BIBAS

Dragon, ipse venena  bibas, drink your own poison.

Yes indeed,

A Sunday Sermon

Shadow LSP

Conversation in the sacristy before Mass #2 went like this:

"Have you seen the video of the Portland execution last night?"
"What?"
"Another shooting?"
"Yes, dude rolled up on a skateboard and shot a Trump supporter who was crossing the road."

"Whoa."
"Yes, they cheered afterwards."
"Keep this going on and there's gonna be pushback, serious pushback."

A beautiful unicorn

Said the former artillery officer. "Let's think happy thoughts before church," replied the MC who's also a retired rodeo star, bronc. Not being slow to listen to the laity I replied, "As in unicorns, rainbows and bunnies?" The MC, who gives as good as he gets, wasn't slow either, "Just say your prayers, LSP."

A typical defense rifle

Here endeth the Lesson and while we're at it, "Get thee behind me Satan!" Vade retro Satana!

Be brave and rebuke the unclean spirit, a murderer from the beginning and Father of Lies. Say no to the world, the flesh and Devil, say yes to the Way of the Cross, of sacrificial love which is the way of light and life.

Vade Retro Satana

We're in a spiritual war, a combat between good and evil, light v. dark, God versus the Devil. So arm yourself for the fight but remember, you're facing demons. This is useful, from St. Benedict:

Crux sacra sit mihi lux
Nunquam draco sit mihi dux
Vade retro Satana
Nunquam suade mihi vana
Sunt mala quae libas.
Ipse venena bibas.

Meaning (my translation):

The holy Cross shall be my light
The dragon shall never lead me
Get thee behind me Satan!
Never tempt me to vanity
You offer wickedness
Drink your own poison.

Of course the Latin is better. Use it, a minor exorcism, but be prepared to draw fire down upon your position if and when you do. I don't say that lightly.

We fight against principalities and powers,

Hillary Visits The Vineyard

HIllary, Obey Your Mistress

Where do the Globalist New World Order Elite go when they want to raise some pocket change? To Martha's Vineyard, of course, which is why Hillary Clinton stopped by Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild's HRC campaign fundraiser.

A Typical Rothschild Party

The select NWO event hosted 30 people who paid $50,000 each in support of their friend, Hillary. Barack Obama was also on the exclusive millionaire socialist holiday resort but didn't attend the Rothschild party.

Beasts

Donald Trump didn't attend the Martha's Vineyard Rothscild fundraiser either, he was in Detroit, in a church, promising to help poor people.

Their End is Destruction

The Rothschilds have an estimated net worth of at least $400 billion and are notorious for their masquerades. With that in mind, what God do you think they worship? Hint, it's not Christian.

Give it Money!

Hillary, here's some spiritual advice,  ipse venena bibas.
