Worship God Ye Heathen

Dear friends, you may have missed it, but Mass was celebrated on Sunday December 15 according to the traditional Ambrosian Rite in the Basilica of St. Ambrose in Milan for the first time in 50 years. Yes, in half a century. So what, you say with disdainful lip and dismissive eye. So a lot.

For 50 years the ancient liturgy of the West, our worship of God, has been cheapened, bowdlerized, denigrated, mocked and even banned. You see, what happened was this. Satan wasn't able to subvert the Western Catholic Church's teaching, the Magesterium held firm unlike the genius of Anglicanism, but he was able to demolish its worship.

Pan to guitar playing nuns, nylon vestments, and 1970s attack language removing all sense of the sacred or numinal from the worship of God. Pretty effective strategy, crash the worship, crash belief and go figure, RC congregations have been tanking ever since. But maybe that's changing, see the Ambrosian Mass in Milan. A harbinger of things to come?

We hope so, here at the Compound, and know this. Wherever faithful Christians truly worship God, I advise the Ancient Rite, they will be truly blessed. Not kidding, Guinea on the monkey and a safe bet.

Ad Altare Dei,

LSP

Many of my neighbors are Catholics in this senior apartment building. They continue to worship every Sunday but none are happy with today's Mass and want the Mass of their youth.
While I have no dog in the fright I continue to be observant of many things. For example, every Wednesday there is a bible study in the lounge. There are usually twenty participants.
Our only LDS lady stays busy being helpful in general and is a missionary to those who are interested.
My neighbor Jack is messianic rabbi. We have the occasional conversation about Israel and their enemies.
My overall impression is my neighbors are seeking something real, of substances, and enduring. Even WSF starts his day with a short scripture reading with a short sermon.

Remove the Mysteries and the Magesties and replace it with social justice, socialism and other non-religious bullscattery and you destroy the greatness of the Church.

It's why the Latin Mass was banned for so long by the Catholic Church. Priests literally being censured and kicked out and having to go underground to celebrate the old Mass.

Outstanding post LSP. Never stop preaching this. Reflecting the comment by WSF; they not only want the Mass of their youth, but it also happens to be the Mass of most martyrs, saints, and doctors of the Church; or just plain great men such as Christopher Columbus, and his contemporaries.

This is all being driven by communism. They want to make everything ugly, meaningless, and, in many cases, evil. I'm with Jesse Kelly on this when he often says. "They're not just bad, they're evil." Indeed!

Most of the people that follow this and the VM blogs are older. Are younger people turning out in numbers to worship these days? Yes in some congregations they are - but in the traditional congregations?

Especially in the Traditional congregations. Drop in on a TLM if you can find one. Notice the young families. The little ones seem so happy/joyful too. (not to mention well behaved...for some reason)

Meanwhile, over a Kim's place, an encouraging report.

Mr. WSF, I applaud your Morning Prayer and yes, fair play to your neighbors, of course they want the religion they were raised in, it had, and has, substance and beauty.

Beans, it was a great sacrilege. On topic, Satan, like an English schoolboy, hates Latin.

Thanks, Anon, I 100% agree. I won't stop and you'll be unsurprised to know the Mass in the Missions is oriented and Old Rite (Tudor) language. Bear in mind we're simple country missions.

On topic, ahem, country circs didn't stop our forebears from rolling out the fullest possible liturgy. Hmmmm.

I think you've pretty much nailed it, Adrienne. Commies. Apostates, and let's add another thing. First letter "s", last four letters "ites." Yes, evil.

LL, my old place in Calgary went trad Roman/English language (Ordinariate -- they bought their way out of the Anglican diocese, sensibly). It's packed with young people, multiple Masses a Sunday, teeming with kids and young families.

Demographic: Young people who want to experience genuine Catholic worship. The language helps, English but Elizabethan, sort of thing.

Anon, I know. It's a thing. Maybe the tragic modernist liturgical seizure is coming to an end, please.

Excellent Kim post, Wild. Right on the money.
