Yesterday's Haiku Challenge met with spirited participation and good results, seeing a number of excellent offerings in this perennially popular verse form. Ed's submission was most terse, a simple, unadorned emoji:
Yes, sometimes a picture's worth a thousand words. That said, Red's woodsman sent in not one but two excellent haikus. Here, have a look:
Obama Biden
note the master and puppet.
Obama Harris?
And again:
Wolves prey on the weak
The generous are naive
We need more woodsmen.
Wow, what can we say. Keep it coming, woodsman, simply outstanding. Wild wasn't short off the mark either:
Arrests they promised.
Impatient Yoda grows, hmmm?
Well? Waiting we are.
Yes, we are. Beauty, you see, meets truth. And then there's LL, who sums the whole thing up in an act of poetic Zen. Behold:
Concentrated mist
clear jewel on a leafpoint
drip, the river begins.
Beautiful, and keen-eyed readers will note LL's riff on my initial, let's get the haikus rolling, offering, "mist." What is this, some kind of poetry jam? Apparently, and I'll throw one more into the ring:
Kier Starmer is sad
He lost at the ballot box
Teeth gnash in darkness.
Excellent haikus from everyone and congrats to woodsman for prolix versifying. But I have to say LL is the winner. Good work, Mr. Wolf, you win this initial and coveted LSP Haiku award.
Cheers,
LSP

Hey LSP - sorry I missed the contest… out of curiosity I had the Grok AI write one on “wokeness” - Blind to truth, they march,
Words twist, hearts close, minds shut tight—
Freedom fades in haze.
So hard we rhymed
Yet haiku glory we lost.
All hail The White Wolf.
Not my call, obvs, and also post facto, but LL wins not only for the intrinsic excellence of his first, but because it sticks to traditional themes.
Now from that high to this low:
We are powerless.
Newsmedia, the Fed, Harvard?
Noticing is Hate.
Nige won in Runcorn
Salty are Liberal tears
The wave sweeps onwards
Seamus, gotta hand it to Grok!
He did well, Wild, I have to say.
Simply outstanding, Mike, and Harvard's worth a whole class of verse on its own.
Anon, that's captivating. Well played!
