Ride On

me, a few years back

A few years ago and there I was, riding with my boys in a beautiful arena. They rode well, I tell you, then exited stage left. Time for me to open up the throttle and run hell for leather around the track, which I did.

It was her horse

Dear readers, all two you, please understand that this was like taking a Maserati out for a a spin; Randy was/is a PRA barrel horse, notorious for throwing careless riders. "Hey, man, take it easy, don't fall off," Did I? No, I did not, much to PRA amazement. On the contrary, we sped along as one.

What a lot of fun and guess what, the kids, bless 'em, rode like buddha pros.

Your Best Pal,

Those are great memories! I remember taking 30 scouts on a “horseback riding” camp out. The outfit put the boys and other adult leaders on some good and patient steeds. They put yours truly - 6’4” 240 lbs (leaner now) on a… wait for it… Belgian draft horse. They said “don’t pull too hard - or he’ll throw you”. Ahh, but great times with the boys. My two sons had a blast.

I was riding solo before I was four years old. I could always sit any horse but rode with the grace of a sack of potatoes tied to the saddle horn. In a family and clan of superb riders, I was the embarrassment. My sons never had an interest; city kids.

Nice one, Seamus. I loved riding with the kids, they were good, too.

Exactly, LL. I was outta practice and cocky on a half broke horse. Error.

What an excellent video, Wild!

WSF, you've forgotten more about horses than I will ever know. That said, I rode pretty much every day for a few years and became... competent. Of course it was just fun/exercise for me.

It seems a lifetime ago, we lived in what has since become the People’s-Republic-of-Maine. Spouse thought daughter might enjoy horse-riding lessons. She did, then took to trail riding, and wrote her college-entrance essay on ‘Getting Back on the Horse After Being Thrown.’
She hadn’t ridden in 20 years until visiting us here in the west with her Air Force spouse and our grandkids last summer; got on and rode like a pro. Good times, smiles all around!
