CS Lewis writes in Screwtape Proposes a Toast:
Thanks to Our Father Below, the threat was averted. Our counterattack was on two levels. On the deepest level our leaders contrived to call into full life an element which had been implicit in the movement from its earliest days. Hidden in the heart of this striving for Liberty there was also a deep hatred of personal freedom. That invaluable man Rousseau first revealed it. In his perfect democracy, only the state religion is permitted, slavery is restored, and the individual is told that he has really willed (though he didn’t know it) whatever the Government tells him to do. From that starting point, via Hegel (another indispensable propagandist on our side), we easily contrived both the Nazi and the Communist state. Even in England we were pretty successful. I heard the other day that in that country a man could not, without a permit, cut down his own tree with his own axe, make it into planks with his own saw, and use the planks to build a toolshed in his own garden.

My, how the mighty have fallen, imagine Lewis' dismay today. As in, "Wear your mask, dirt person slave, and let us inject you with our experimental DNA serum. Or face the intel agency wrath of GloboCorp, as we ride through your rivers on our super yachts."
Do you see the trajectory? Total, abject, obedient slavery to our #MillSoc rulers. For our own rainbow benefit, obviously. And where's Satan? Hiding, a murderer from the beginning."
Here at the Compound we whistle a different tune. We are in a war, light v. dark. Which side are you on?

As I wrote elsewhere today--
"Our grandson will be one year old this month. We babysit him on days his parents work shifts overlap. Imagine if all he had ever seen at their home and ours were masks and eyes. If anyone ever tries to enforce something like that here, they will have to climb over two piles–first, a pile of bodies. Second, a pile of spent brass.
Is there even a choice, Parson?
We are nearly there (tree-axe-shed) as local governments have morphed into rabid HOA’s, taxing us for every private property improvement we are forced to ask them permission to construct or be fined for “noncompliance”, under the guise of “health and safety”. “Thank you sir, may I have another.”
My final building permit was the garage…never again. Included on the very long list of things my ridiculous “fees” paid into was “county mental health”, and a pile of others having nothing to do with building a garage but benefited every “program” under the sun. Then Covid hit, which only emboldened the overseers for more oppressive rules. Imagine being a long time business and some health idiot is telling you “you’re not essential” or need to limit your customers, or are required (now) to install a new HVAC system. Who pays? Not them, as they trundle off in their “green” coal power rechargeable Prius with the official emblem on the side, paid for by taxpayers.
The side of light, of course!
I knew we could count on you, NFO :)
But Paul, surely you're not criticizing our beloved rulers?
Someone once said, "I hate politicians because they want power over people. I really hate local politicians because they want power over people they know."
Well said, drjim!
It's just outrageous, RHT.
Rousseau: I was disgusted when I first read his (translated) spew in high school. And puzzled that no one else seemed to see it for the horror it was. Nowadays I know better. Quite simple, really: Lots of people (especially high-IQ ones with lots of credentials) are fools.
With you, Mike. Just reread Social Contract, spurred on by CSL...
