I can't overstate how monumental tonight is, as someone who has followed every major uprising since 2009.
The islamic regime has always fallen back on two things when pressured into a corner:
1) Communication blackout
2) Mass murder
This has always worked in the past, silencing Iranians into going home battered, scared and traumatised.
This time however, Iranians responded to both 1 and 2 by coming out in even greater numbers. This has NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. I tell you this as someone who saw the images of Neda Agha-Soltan's dying breaths in 2009, who saw the 2017 uprising crushed, who saw the 2019 November blackout and massacre, who saw the 2022 uprising fizzle into nothing after relentless oppression.
Not only has this movement not died out - for the first time there is a commanding leader and a guiding voice who makes calls and decisions for his people. He is the Shah of Iran, and the vast majority of Iran has proven to want him back on the throne. Nobody can deny this any longer.
And now, we have a unified Iran defying regime blackouts AND regime massacres, organising and fighting back, inflicting real and devastating casualties. There has been nothing like this ever. The regime did not expect people to come back out.
I repeat: This wasn't supposed to happen. This is a living nightmare for the mullahs and all their cheerleaders.
I don't know what happens next. All I know is this has moved from an uprising to a revolution.
You'll be unsurprised to know that protestors are burning down mosques, torching government buildings and going hard in the streets. You'll also be amazed to know that the BBC hasn't covered this revolution; surely they wouldn't want to offend the Islamo-Marxist vote on their home turf.
Thanks to Elon Musk and Starlink, the revolution's televised on X, the same platform Kier Starmer and his merry band of Crescent Moon Bolsheviks want to ban in the UK. Odd that, ain't it.

The Shah of Iran, Reza Pahlavi, issued this request tonight on social media:
Mr. President, this is an urgent and immediate call for your attention, support, and action. Last night you saw the millions of brave Iranians in the streets facing down live bullets. Today, they are facing not just bullets but a total communications blackout. No Internet. No landlines.
Ali Khamenei, fearing the end of his criminal regime at the hands of the people and with the help of your powerful promise to support the protesters, has threatened the people on the streets with a brutal crack down. And he wants to use this blackout to murder these young heroes.
I have called the people to the streets to fight for their freedom and to overwhelm the security forces with sheer numbers. Last night they did that. Your threat to this criminal regime has also kept the regime’s thugs at bay. But time is of the essence. The people will be on the streets again in an hour. I am asking you to help.
You have proven and I know you are a man of peace and a man of your word. Please be prepared to intervene to help the people of Iran.

Historically what is the religious heritage of Persia, I know they were quite liberal before the assaholas took over.
Crusty Old TV Tech here. Zoroastrian. Persia was the birthplace of Zoroastrianism. LSP can enlighten us further, but I recall Christian missionaries reaching Persia not long after India, before Persia was overrun by Mohammad's bunch. And concur LSP, Godspeed to Persia and the return of the Shah.
There are a variety of religions that are the heritage religions of Persia. Technically the Shah of Persia was/is the 'Shah of Iran and not Iran,' which means he ruled/rules over several distinct 'nations' of potentially different religions and tribal backgrounds.
Zoroastrianism, which is a monotheistic non-Christian (or is it?) religion, various animalistic and polytheistic versions of roughly an advanced version of the Babylonian religion and a smattering of Christianity and some Judaism.
Back before the muslims came in, Persia (compose.d of Iran and not-Iran) was a pretty banging place full of a melange of everything, including some of the Hinduistic religions.
Funny now is that Christianity is the up-and-coming religion of Iran and not-Iran. Along with whatever the Kurds believe in (besides the ones that believe in socialism...) and the Zoroastrians, which were and are being ruthlessly persecuted by the current government.
Thanks to Carter and the US Democrats and the French, a decent leader (in Middle Eastern terms) was kicked out and the madness of mullahs was installed. Supposedly to better relations with Iran. Gee, that worked out well didn't it?

Sounds like the real Shah is doing his best to support his nation and his people. I hope he has a chance to return to his country as part of the solution.

Funny - the last news heard out of Ireland was the Irish rising up (shades of IRA). Maybe I've not paid attention to the proper sources, but I haven't heard any news lately about Ireland. It was said that Carter never met a bloody dictator he didn't like.
Just like FDR never met a socialist/communist dictator he didn't like, the worse the better (after all, he chose Stalin over Hitler... and Stalin, in my book, was far worse than Hitler, Stalin was as equally horrible towards the Jews as Hitler, just didn't gas and mass slaughter them... Much.)
The (old) Shah was friendly towards Israel. Hopefully the new Shah and the rest of new Iran will be Israel's friend. After all, the new/calling for freedom Iranians were/are very happy that Israel blew the ever-living carp out of the regime's defenses (and thus removing those pieces of equipment from being used against the freedom-calling Iranians.)
Israel has made lots of mistakes in dealing with their neighbors and tormentors. But Israel has also been one of the most open nations down there, and the only one that consistently stops and tries to reset to peace (or values thereof.) Like Gaza or the West Bank. Both of those would happily be under Israeli control and thriving centers of agriculture and business, with Jewish, muslim and Christians living under the blue star. But Israel consistently gave those sections back to the 'Palestinians' to Israel's woe. Israel gives them waterpipes, they make rockets and bombs. Israel gives them supplies, they sell them to buy weapons. Israel, for all its warts and faults, is the best place in the Middle East for a lot of people.
