Texan Winter Wonderland

You're thinking winter, in Texas, some kind of joke? No, it's not, especially when it's so rare. That in mind, the Compound woke up to an icy wonderland and it only seemed right to go for a stroll through the freezing crystalline whiteness of it all. Call it a recce patrol if you like.

Very few cars or trucks, snow compacted into ice, a biting westerly wind, wind chill in the minus something, Meth Shack now refurbed as an Hispanic worker dorm, Pick 'n Steal standing but shut because cold, Brookshire's remarkably open. I walked in, just to get out of the biting cold.

Then back to the Compound via the Narnia streets and boulevards of this once prosperous little town now, tragically, turned to ICE. That in mind, Walmart was like a riot scene in Minneapolis without the riot, just excited crews of Mexicans wondering at the emptiness of it all and looking for bargains. Fair play.

Now we're in the midst of roasting a chicken, affordable, and listening to Ella Fitzgerald. Life is good.

Cheers,

LSP

When it's cold snowy and icy I just stay home and and keep the fire going. The upcoming week in Hampton Roads is going to be like that.

That sounds very sensible, Macus. Nice one.

I got back to South Central Kansas from Acadiana area of Louisiana Friday afternoon where it was (+,-) 70 all week just in time to see the snow start and thermometer at 4. I'm ready to go back, for sure. Anyway, brewed up a big pot of chili that afternoon and let it set in the garage (a.k.a. "the big refrigerator" this time of year) all night then put it in the slow cooker all morning for lunch Saturday. Church called off today due to roughly 6 inches of snow, so I did up a big pot of chicken chili verde for supper. Mrs. did beef stew in my absence, so we're set for a few days anyway.

One perk of being fully retired is not going out. Too many years of press on regardless (to borrow a rally slogan).

That looks like my yard, just about ten minutes north of Longview. I stayed home, so IDK what the streets looked like. You're North of me?. It's supposed to get cold again,, I guess we'll see..

You survived! I didn't see signs of snowplows clearing the streets there in Hill Country. If you paid more money in the form of a weather tax, you wouldn't have a need for snowplows.

Right on, Wild, and glad you missed the icy fury of it all. Church was off here too, annoyingly, but the roads really weren't safe. Good chili call! We went down the spag bol route, similar.

WSF, you survived! Well done.

I'm about am hour south, Justin, and it did get colder, but not ferociously. Still, cold enough as it was, a bit warmer now but still icy.

It's a total miracle, LL. And yes, if only we had paid more tax none of this would've happened.

You may find it odd but here in Northern California, we're begging for that stuff. I was out in the Jeep this weekend and where we normally have 4' of snow, there was bare dirt.
