You may have noticed that our nation goes to the polls tomorrow. Who will win? The Cackling Whore or the Golden Golem of Greatness? I have no idea and won't pretend to prophesy with any amount of accuracy; who knows, maybe it'll be too big to rig.
I doubt it, though it'd be pleasant to be proved wrong. More likely this: massive contention leading into January with all that that might entail.
Regardless, here's Winston Churchill:
At the bottom of all the tributes paid to democracy is the little man, walking into the little booth, with a little pencil, making a little cross on a little bit of paper-no amount of rhetoric or voluminous discussion can possibly diminish the overwhelming importance of the point.
Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except all those others that have been.
Yes, and the question is: does the little man, with his little pencil, and his little ballot and all of that, count for nothing or something? I guess we'll see tomorrow.
A friend, a pol science Baylor prof no less, once said, "We'd be a Constitutional Republic if we were, in fact, a republic." Well he had a point.

I haven't prayed this hard since I was last in the Hospital, Parson.
Same, drjim, it's all go.

That is disturbing, and accurate. Your friend is sharp guy.
He really is, Justin, a justly self-described "professional Platonist" (they exist!?!!) but pretty right on. That said, none, absolutely none of his "politcal science" crew saw the Trump 2016 victory and I called them out, "Now look here here, you lot, you didn't see this coming, in fact you said it was impossible. Perhaps this forces you to reevaluate?"
This was at Coffee Hour after Mass, and my Platonist's wife, who's on the board of First Things, thank you very much, said, "Yes, it does."
To your point, sharp people.
God WILL save America.
You all be safe and God bless.
He will, Linda, we must be faithful and MILITANT in the meanwhile.
We haven't been a functioning republic for years. We are currently a national socialist (government indirectly controlling all aspects of life with some direct control of aspects of life (vs international socialism/communism which is government direct control of all aspects of life)) oligarchy.
And, yes, we all need to pray.
Sadly, God Himself gave us, the good and bad, free will on this Earth so we are fighting against the free will of evil people.
Stomach's tied in knots, grumpy as all heck, I pray that light and good wins over darkness and evil.
And if They win, and Their actions kill off my wife, well...
2nd Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) - If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
That's us, and we better get with the program.........
And with that, I'm off to vote. Wish me luck, but praying for it's better.
Interesting tidbit about Winston: He had an American mother and foreign father. He was not an American citizen. On the other hand, Obama had an American mother and foreign father. He considered himself a foreign student but was considered eligible for the Presidency.
With all due respect Anon @ 5:25am, Winston had an English father and a foreign mother.
Stick to your own knitting, old chap.
Anon, I have a Yankee father and a Texan mother. Does this make me a Texan, though I was raised in England? I say it does, though you may well disagree.
Powerful strike, nbc. Of course his mother was gleamingly beautiful.
While Seguin and Navarro were Native Texans (TM), Bowie, Crockett, Travis, Bonham and Fannin along with Houston and de Zavala were born elsewhere but got there as soon as they could. Under those circumstances, you qualify.
And, you know what Ray Wylie Hubbard says about being from Texas:

Foreign from the point of view of Americans - such as Obama
PS: I was raised to admire Sir Winston
Most definitely, Wild. I voted too, pretty much as a protest and guess what? The protest materialized. Huh.
Beans, against all my doomer odds, it was a landslide. Good work.
Same. Anon.
And Wild, if Texan citizenship is matrilineal I'm OK. Speaking of which, it caused a stir when she married a Yankee in the early '60s. What did they do? Got on the Queen Mary and went to England (Oxford), and here we are back again. What a long strange trip it's been.
