Rest in Peace Prince Philip

 

Here in the States we woke up to the tragic news that Prince Philip had died, at the age of 99. He fought in the titanic war against Fascism and the Nazis, serving honorably as a decorated officer in the Royal Navy, with a final rank of Commander in 1953.

The same people who believe gender's divorced from biology believe Philip was a Fascist, despite fighting against Fascists in the war. Perhaps it was an internicene feud? Then again, the Prince's detractors may be suffering from dropped on head as infant syndrome.

I vote for the latter, but regardless, his death surely marks the closing of an age, an age in many respects better than our own.

Memorial Day

It's been a good day of grilling, visiting nearby compounds, eating delicious ribs, telling Army tales for the benefit of the Cadet, and castigating the left for the comsymp shill dupes of the Illuminati globalist elite that they are.

To say nothing of remembering and praying for the fallen. I'd say this Proclamation puts it well:

"Whether on the battlefields of Bunker Hill, on the beaches of Normandy, in the jungles of Vietnam, or in the mountains and deserts of the Middle East, brave Americans of every generation have given their last full measure of devotion in defense of our country, our liberty, and our founding ideals. On Memorial Day, we humbly honor these incredible patriots and firmly renew our abiding commitment to uphold the principles for which they laid down their lives.

"As a free people, we have a sacred duty to remember the courageous warriors who have made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure that our great country would endure. It is our responsibility to strive to ensure that their noble acts of dedication to our country and the cause of freedom were not in vain and to comfort the families they have left behind, who bear the heartbreak of their loss. 

"We must ensure that the light of our Republic, and all for which these most honorable Americans willingly died, continues to shine forth brightly into the world. As President Lincoln said in 1863 during the dedication of the Gettysburg National Military Cemetery: 'It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.'"

Memorial Day 2018

On Memorial Day, we pause in solemn gratitude to pay tribute to the brave patriots who laid down their lives defending peace and freedom while in military service to our great Nation. We set aside this day to honor their sacrifice and to remind all Americans of the tremendous price of our precious liberty. President Trump

May those who gave their lives rest in peace and rise in glory.

The Crossing

One of the baker's half-dozen who reads this eccentric internet backwater sent this in, by Cormac McCarthy:

"Every man's death is a standing in for every other. And since death comes to all there is no way to abate the fear of it except to love the man who stands for us. We are not waiting for his history to be written. He passed here long ago. That man who is all men and who stands in the dock for us until our own time comes and we must stand for him. Do you love him, that man? Will you honor the path he has taken? Will you listen to his tale?"

I reflected on that as I fished below the dam after a round of bereavement visits. We must stand for him; I like that, in fact I like all of it.
