Guess what, I've been after a Ruger Mk. IV .22 for ages but haven't bit the bullet. Why? Too busy collecting Glocks perhaps, messing around with Lee Enfields, AR 15s and all of that. Whatever the case, .22 pistols have slid me by. But everything's changed.
The awesome Ruger Mk. IV's been reengineered with a view to easier take down/cleaning. You may recall this wasn't easy, and now the problem's fixed. Solution, good work, Ruger, and I don't know about you but I'm more than tempted to get one of these little blasters. Here's Hickock in review:
Look's good, right? But maybe I should hold out for an awesome High Standard. Hey, why not both, to maximize benefit, there is that. In other news, the ridiculously behind the cultural 8 Ball King of England has declared he's the "Defender of Faith" in a multi-faith kingdom. Hate to say it, and I really do, but the monarchy's obviously part of the problem in Rainbow Utopia UK.
That aside, surely a new Ruger IV makes sense,

I do not think it means what he thinks it means.
The gold standard for target 22's used to be the Colt Woodsman and still is the S&W Model 41 (although the apostates at Smith are about to quit making them) but for Everyman, the Ruger will do just fine. That said, a S&W 17 or 18 require no pesky magazines and I'm hearing good things about the new Colt Cobra.
The Mk IV is one sweet gun-fits my hand perfectly and is so easy to shoot accurately - but what a flipping PIA to disassemble/reassemble. Kinda wonder why it took Ruger so long to fix that.
Nah, get a good revolver.
Ruger re-engineered their pistol into the Mk4 version because S&W came out with their Victory 22, a MUCH improved version of the Ruger Mk series pistols whose design patent had expired. Would Ruger have bothered if Smith hadn’t done so?

Hmmmm, must check out the S&W option, Wild. Not that I'm some sort of Ruger apostate.
I haven't bought one, yet, for just that reason, Anon. But now? Maybe I will. Not too pricey.

I prefer the tapered barrel target model over the Hunter model shown. I traded the Hunter of bought a 75th anniversary blue gun added Altamont rose wood with thumb groove and a Volquarrsen trigger. To me the balance is better.
