You're all aware of the remarkable late Roman general Flavius Belisarius, but did you know he took out the Italian Goths with around 6000 men? Something like that, which says a lot for professional Roman troops and not much for the wretched Goths.
You'll also recall that Justinian's general routed the Vandals in Spain and associated territories. He evidently recaptured the Standards disastrously lost at Adrianople, which were duly paraded in Constantinople at the last classical triumph.
