Confirmed!

Confirmand

One of the many benefits of living in LSPland is that you can give, and get, Confirmation instruction at the range. It's one of Lent's more pleasant duties and it gave me the chance to shoot a Tikka T3, chambered for .270. I liked it, but thought my Remington 700 had a bit more substance -- it's a bit heavier, for a start; I managed to shoot better with the 700, considerably so. Still, that was probably my fault, not the Tikka's.

Senator Yee

In other news, a member of the congregation, who'd just defended her dissertation on the political philosophy of St. Thomas Aquinas, disagreed with me when I suggested our Ruling Elites were somehow "corrupt." I didn't press the point, but I will leave you with California State Senator Leland Yee, who has been indicted for gun-running and corruption.

Shrimp Boy

According to Reuters, Yee was arrested along with Raymond "Shrimp Boy" Chow, a prominent figure in California's criminal underground. Yee is the third California State Senator to face criminal charges this year. He is an enthusiastic supporter of gun control.

I wish that that was all. But it isn't.

God bless,

Tikka?

Round about the end of the year, with the thought of presents looming, my mind turns to rifles. One rifle in particular, the Tikka T3. It gets great reviews, it's comparatively cheap, everyone says, "LSP! Get a Tikka!." Then, just as I'm about to leap into the world of Tikka, up comes Churck Hawks' damning review. Here's a bit of it to refresh the memory:

"To add insult to injury, the Tikka T3 is a cheap rifle to produce, but not an inexpensive one to purchase. (Ditto the I-Bolt!) These things cost as much or more than some higher quality, better designed, and better turned-out hunting rifles. The T3's success is a tribute to the ignorance of the modern American sportsman--and the connivance of the sporting press upon which they rely for information."

Maybe I'd be better off browsing the 2nd hand racks...

Good shooting,

What Gun?

Woke up to a beautiful morning, the sun was rising on frost covered grass and all was still save for the distant sounds of shotguns firing away on the farms. Then it was a spirited Mass and off to the next Mission; fine, until Global Warming and its friend, the New Ice Age, stopped my pick- up from starting. Disaster! Until a friendly parishioner lent me a car to complete the journey.

As I drove along my mind turned towards that burning and knotty issue - what gun to buy? Part of me thinks, "Get an M4gery", sure, but what brand? What caliber? .223 or .308 - maybe something else again... Bushmaster or Armalite? DPMS or Colt? etc. And with what optics/flip up iron sights?

Then again...

Why not get an M1A? Tempting. Or should I just be sensible and get a Tikka T3? No easy choice, is it, but then again, who ever said life would easy?

All advice welcome. Forgive the incessant questions.

Have a blessed Sunday,

LSP
