Are you all sitting comfortably, with a tall glass of Talarico in hand? Surely yes, it's that time of the evening when we sit back after the rigors of a long day and contemplate the workings of the world. That in mind, reflect on this.
The UK, you may know, has a tiny Army, Navy and Airforce, an inconsequential armed force which clearly isn't capable of defending the Sceptered Isle much less fighting an actual war against a peer adversary which lasts beyond a week or two. Serious issue, especially for an island which relies on open sea lanes.
OK, gottit, what remarkable foolishness, but here's the thing. When you bring this alarming shortfall up to educated UK Libs as in, "Don't you think it'd be a good idea for an island to have an actual navy?" they get all worked up and vocal, "We've got alliances, man, don't you know anything!" Seriously, that's what they say, we've got "alliances," and so therefore, we don't need an actual navy or the industrial base to make one.
Dear friends, I've met this argument several times, it's a thing, and I'm flummoxed. The UK doesn't have an effective military in any sense of the word but it has "alliances,' so that's OK. Alliances with whom? The mighty German Reich, the Napoleonic splendour of France? Plucky little Belgium? Spain, Italy, Greece, Zimbabwe?
Like no kidding, the EU couldn't fight a war if it tried because it doesn't have any ships, planes, troops or ammo. No worthwhile alliance there then. Ah, but one country does, even now, the US. Are my UK lib pals suggesting that the UK needn't defend itself because America will do the job for them while they import votes?
No, of course they aren't, they're pretending the EU is some kind of military power that can exist without US force. Good luck with that pretense, and bear in mind, Euros, that nature abhors a vacuum. In this case, an absence of actual armies and industry. That in mind, who will fill the undefended space. The Atholl Highlanders, USMC? Yes please.
As it is, I fail to see how a determined invasion force from the continental Europe, think Portugal, or anywhere else could be stopped by the UK's non-existent defense force. Interesting, Armada anyone?

Sad to see the United Kingdom dissolve from being an example for the world for centuries into a joke. So much to be admire being lost. History, IMO, will never favor the "woke".
Most of this loss of military power came from the loss of the Suez Canel and the fall of the pound sterling as a world reserve currency. Seems America decided not to support their efforts to recover the Suez and so it goes.
From a powerful navy that the sun never set on to what a crippled carrier and barely one frigate to deploy after refitting.
History isn't kind to empires that lose their currency to debasement or serious military failures.
Woke is just the civilian response to a crippled society.
But THAT will never happen to America, eh? Bueler, Bueler?
Considering how unprepared materially the US was for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars (shortages of magazines, body armor and vehicle protection comes to mind, along with comfort supplies and sanitary supplies,) I can't even imagine how totally unprepared any UK forces are.
Do they even have enough ammo for two weeks of action? No. Which means having lots of mags isn't needed, sadly.
No spares. No extra things like boots and socks, let alone body armor and vehicles that work.
Right now William the Conqueror and the Norman Invasion could take the place over, with 11th Century equipment (some exaggeration, but is it?)
And they're falling internally to the Haj. They are the front line of the Dar al Harb (the lands of war, to be conquered.)
The UK has been conquered, and the conquerors are not allies of the United States. How this plays out is to be seen, but even if the U.K. decides to return its autonomy, it can't win any armed conflict, although it could probably put on an expensive drag show.
While back, I bought a pristine set of Churchill's 4-volume History of the English Speaking Peoples for three bucks at a flea market and finally got around to the first one, covering the Roman, Norman and Danish invasions and much unpleasantness with and in Fwance. So it seems to me Portugal might have some competition.
Seems Peter Thiel multimillionaire (billionaire?) Of Plaitnter AI has moved his family to Argentina citing "concerns about America's situation ".
Will be interesting if other tech millionaires follow suit.
Who said follow the money to know what's going on?
