Solstice Hippy Witch

June 13 marks the summer solstice and with it the chance for roving gangs of hippies to get together, do a little thieving, goof-off, maybe dance around, get all pagan and trash someone's land. Pretty harmless, right? Like what went on at America's replica Stonehenge today.

Hippies

According to the Sacramento Bee, 12 hippies managed to get up in time to worship the sun as it rose above Washington State's Columbia Gorge at 5.30 am. Elise Mesnard called the site a "beautiful, meditative area." Another sun worshiper, Egypt Rose, was more proactive. She lit a fire and dropped wax figurines in a cauldron, where they presumably melted.

Just a Few Totally Harmless Wax Figurines

She lit a fire and dropped wax figurines in a cauldron. Well that's as harmless as witchcraft itself, isn't it.

To the best of my knowledge, Egypt Rose is not yet an Episcopal priestess.

Best as I could tell, all that happened in Austin to celebrate the solstice was more music festivals. All that EVER happens in Austin is music festivals!
Which is disappointing, considering I was expecting to come across at least one person impaled on antlers.
Perhaps equinox will be more interesting.

What a gang they are.

Seriously -- we have a replica Henge. A Quaker built it, I think, in the 19C.

A REPLICA henge? In Austin? Say it isn't so.

It would be interesting if somehow armed druid zombies emerged from the ground beneath the stones in Austin and killed the hippies on the next solstice.

JENNY - The news didn't contain one antler impalement and I was thoroughly crushed as life failed to imitate art.

Hmmm, must put a Henge in Equinox -- good call!

Oh, come on-- now y'all are just stalling. We're never going to see Equinox if new requirements keep getting added!

not so fast, jenny!

These folks appear to be mostly addle-pated middling aged and up stoners and tree huggers. It's a pity they don't attract more of the younger idealistic fanatics who go the jihad route - I'd rather see them cavorting around replica Stonehenges than cavorting in Syria with suicide belts.

That's a very good point. Hope all's well in Canada.
