The Siege Of Vienna

History isn't taught in schools anymore, it's called "Social Studies," so you may have missed one of the most important battles in Western history, the siege of Vienna, in which a war horde of some 200,000 Turks attacked the heart of the Holy Roman Empire, Vienna, defended by around 12,000 men.

All seemed lost, the Turkish horde on the point of victory, until Jan Sobieski of Poland arrived on the scene with his winged hussars and smashed the Moslems, charging downhill on the Jihadic invaders with great fury. 18,000 horsemen, with Poland's famous Hussars in the van, fell on the Turks, who were routed, arguably the greatest cavalry charge in history. Tolkien, we're told, modelled the Ride of Rohirrim on it.

Mustafa riding high on plunder

Mustafa Pasha, the Grand Vizier of the invading Moslem force, fell back to Hungary with ragged remnants of his his once proud army. He was executed by strangulation in Constantinople (?) in the December of his inglorious defeat.

Along with Lepanto, Malta and perhaps Poitiers, this battle and Sobieski's charge has shaped our lives. Why? That's simple, because of it we aren't Moslems. Maybe you disagree, but I'd say that's a very good thing, and you may remember Chesterton wrote a short book about it, the "Flying Inn."

Point of this rambling post? Simple. Hail Sobieski and Hail the Winged Hussars, and with that, stand up and be counted for your Faith because the invasion is upon us. Perhaps you doubt me; OK, just get on a plane and fly over to Whitechapel and its mosque.

Your Old Pal,
