You know what it's like, you talk with the people after Mass on Sunday and what do you hear? "Padre, I saw an Ocelot the other day, running down a creek bed." Wow, that's not shabby. I asked my Senior Warden if he'd seen "big black cats" or a Jaguarundi, and he said he had not.
Me? I've seen a mountain lion, but that was in West Texas. Big cats in North Central? Not so much, but I reckon they're there. Cougars and bobcats, obvs, but Ocelots? That's a first for me. Maybe escaped from someone's hi-fenced exotica?

I once saw a cougar (of the feline variety) where such were not supposed to exist according to the Kansas state fish & game ex spurts, and later had a chat with a genuine wildlife biologist about it. He essentially said critters have their own quirky notions about where they should go, and the fish and game people should join the men and dogs in the Heinlein quote.

back in 1992 I worked at a major hospital in Philly. 3rd shift. one night we had a "guy" come in that was ripped to shreds. big dude, 6 ft something, well over 200 pounds. found out he broke into a girls apartment and was mauled by her
"cat". yeah. out side purring in the back seat of a cop car. she was wiping blood off her "cat". ack story was he Dad got her the cat back when it was a
small "kitten" and they loved each other. funny thing, the "cat" had all her shots and whatnot and was 'legal' to own. so, no charges against the girl or her "cat". but the asshole spent 4 days there before going to jail/prison for what he did. BTW, the cat was just over 20 or 25 pounds and a real sweetheart . but the asshole was freaking the hell out over what the cat did to him.
