Doom On My Friends - Miracle Needed

The best thing about Garden Europa and its rainbow soft power is how solvent it is. Just kidding, EU debt sits at over 16TN €, because of course it does, all those votes aren't going to pay themselves for goodness sake. But what happens when you run outta cash to pay the votes?

The votes get angry, see France, which sits on the top of the EU's debt pile. Let's not get down into the weeds but, as an old friend once said, "The problem with debt is that someone, eventually, wants to be paid back.

How, and with what? No one seems to know, not least the Europeans who don't produce anything to speak of and aren't even reproducing themselves. Demographic suicide, anyone? I tell you, it's a weird and horrible thing to watch a civilization kill itself. But what am I saying.

Here in the US we're several orders of magnitude greater in debt, and go figure, every dollar's an IOU at interest to the privately owned Fed. Who knows, maybe we'll inflate our way out the coming crisis. In the meanwhile, we're ignoring it on the good old precept that maybe, if we shut our eyes, the problem will cease to exist.

How smart. Can't have that, raysisst

Well that's cheery, isn't it, but there is this. Here in the States 100s of thousands of Islamo-Marxist votes aren't marching in our streets and trying to burn what's left of Western Civ down. Go on, try it, Commies, and see how far you get before we revert to ammo gold standard. That in mind, and message to market:

If you're a Christian, not least a catholic, and the two are synonymous, Go. To. Mass. Or whatever, worship God with your praise band and all of that. Seriously, if we get this essential spiritual component right everything else will fall into place, not least miraculously. And let's call the shot as seen, we need a miracle right about now.

Send it,

Islandlwana

Picture the scene. Early morning in the NCTEZ (North Central Texas Exclusion Zone) and the sun's rising fiercely in the East making the back deck untenable, so you advance to the cool shade of the front porch, strong coffee in hand and 1928 BCP Morning Prayer complete. You're met by your cohort who rocks gently on the porch swing as you announce, "I say, you'll never guess what I did last night."

Pan to a quizzical eyebrow, it's almost too hot to speak, and you expound, "Yes, I watched Zulu, the movie." Now, all three of you readers of this shallow mind blog know exactly what that means, Isandlwana, the horrific 1879 defeat of a small British battlegroup by a far larger Zulu army. Yes, you know this, but Front Porch Joint Command was uncertain, "You mean some kind of horrible Victorian African war?" Exactly so, and we changed the subject.

Front porchery aside, Isandlwana sent such shockwaves through Great Britain that I was being taught about it, with a degree of reverence, let the reader understand, in the 1970s, same with the Indian Mutiny. No wonder, many of our teachers were former officers who'd served the Empire and fought the Hun to boot. But back on point.

Isandlwana. What a total, tragic failure on Great Britain's part, a lot of good men killed through sheer, bone-headed incompetence and upper class hubris, see Lord Chelmsford and associates. Well, you can read about the disaster on the internet, which details the defeat of some 1,500 Martini Henry wielding troops by around 12,000 spear chucking savages who somehow stumbled on Hannibal's famous flanking maneuver. Bad show, Chelmsford, and well done boys for rallying at Rorke's Drift, which reminds me.

Many, many years ago I let a rifle (L1A1/SLR) fall to the ground at a training range and my Platoon Commander gave the old drop and do 50, which I did. Half way through he asked, "Royal Regiment of Wales, name a battle honour." I replied, "Rorke's Drift," and he stumped off, a British South African, curiously.

So there you have it. Watch Zulu or Zulu Dawn, most awesome. If you already have, watch 'em again.

Cheers,

It's Bushcraft Wednesday! Forging The Spear

Bushcraft is just that, a craft, and like any craft it has its tools. Like spears. Think about it, you're looking at your bushcraft toolkit and ticking off the items. Large and small kniives, check; whetstone, check, snares, line and hooks, check; re-purposed single shot 12 gauge musket, check. But where's the spear?

You don't have one. Bad error. Do you go to Cabela's or Academy or Bass Pro, and give your money to "the Man" for some hyped up piece of outdoors industry gimmickry? No, that's not what bushcraft's about. You make one yourself. Hammer, forge and tongs.

Here at the Compound we hope you find this short infovideo as helpful as we do.
