Pope Francis in America

Pope Francis is in America and set to make an historic, first-ever papal address to Congress. Some have condemned him as a Marxist for daring to criticize greed:

“Once capital becomes an idol and guides people’s decisions, once greed for money presides over the entire socio-economic system, it ruins society, it condemns and enslaves men and women, it sets people against one another and, as we clearly see, it even puts at risk our common home.”

That's not Marxist, or comsymp War Against the Weather Obamunism, it's common sense and it's Christian.

Mammon

You cannot serve God and mammon.

Thank goodness someone's reminding the individuals in our government that they have a purpose larger than money...

I should probably not trust anything on FB as valid without seeking outside confirmation, but the report of Pope Frank or "Psycho" claiming that those in the gun industry cannot call themselves Christian, certainly get the mind whirling with the ridiculousness of the situation. I'm guessing this means those Swiss Guards are only armed with pop guns (Pope guns, perhaps?). Maybe this could bring the Shamwow guy out of retirement: the new and improved, official Vatican "Pope Gun", blessed by the Pontiff himself, guaranteed to slay the demons under your bed, while not marring the finish on your floors or furniture, made in Germany (the Germans make great stuff! )

(Ok, it was funny in *my* head... maybe it's a sign I should go to bed already!)

I totally agree, Jenny. Not least money for themselves...

Maybe Francis has given a dispensation to German firearms manufacturers?

I don't agree with everything you post, LSP, but I'll chime in with a hearty amen on this one. Those who condemn the Pope for being a Communist are put in a somewhat awkward position by capitalist shenanigans such as Volkswagen cheating on a massive scale to ensure more profitability, and by hedge fund douchebags jacking lifesaving drugs by 700%.

Thanks, Padre. The Pope might be wrong about all kinds of things, for all I know, but having a go at rampant, idolatrous greed isn't one of them. At least that's the way I see it.
