Before my youngest son's fist deployment to Iraq, my mother-in-law said, "I used to wonder why God sometimes told the Israelites to kill them all. Now I know." I had the same realization when first seeing photographs of Canaanite gods and goddesses. They are frightfully beyond alien. Upon reaching a certain age, each of us is given a choice. We can follow the commandment "You will have no other gods before me," or we can follow those things.
