Yes, it's Holy Tuesday and the culminating week of Lent, the focal point of the liturgical year. No shortage of material for reflection in that, but what else? Only a massive cargo ship crashing into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, and bringing the bridge down, thus effectively closing one of North America's largest ports.
Here's an 8x video of the event:

Does that look like an accident to you? Lara Logan thinks not, posting on X:
Multiple intel sources: Baltimore bridge collapse was an “absolutely brilliant strategic attack” on US critical infrastructure - most likely cyber - & our intel agencies know it. In information warfare terms, they just divided the US along the Mason Dixon line exactly like the Civil War.
Second busiest strategic roadway in the nation for hazardous material now down for 4-5 years - which is how long they say it will take to recover. Bridge was built specifically to move hazardous material - fuel, diesel, propane gas, nitrogen, highly flammable materials, chemicals and oversized cargo that cannot fit in the tunnels - that supply chain now crippled.
Make no mistake: this was an extraordinary attack in terms of planning, timing & execution.
The two critical components on that bridge are the two load-bearing pylons on each end, closest to the shore. They are bigger, thicker and deeper than anything else. These are the anchor points and they knew that hitting either one one of them would be a fatal wound to the integrity of the bridge.
Half a mile of bridge went in the river - likely you will have to build a new one. Also caused so much damage to the structural integrity of the bottom concrete part that you cannot see & won’t know until they take the wreckage apart. Structural destruction likely absolute.
She goes on, quoting a "source:"
“They have figured out how to bring us down. As long as you stay away from the teeth of the US military, you can pick the US apart. We are arrogant and ignorant - lethal combination. Obama said they would fundamentally change America and they did. We are in a free-fall ride on a roller coaster right now - no brakes - just picking up speed.”
That's Lara, but what's your call, a tragic accident, incompetence, Black Swan or some kind of attack by our several enemies? Serious question on any count, and now Baltimore's in even more trouble than it already was.

First words out of the Fibbies mouth: "This was not a terrorist attack".
ReplyDeleteMaybe investigate first?
Could be, but I tend to believe that it happened more because of lack of safety standards (or the enforcement thereof) and laws that exempt Corporations that run shipping like this from any liability. In most other countries, the shipping company and the government officials inspecting the ships would held accountable. Here they just borrow more money from BlackRock and build another bridge at taxpayers' expense and the shipping firm gets a tax write-off and the inspectors go on keeping their jobs.
ReplyDeleteTrump should bring his guys in, it’ll be cleared out and rebuilt in short order…and under budget. He’s done it before, including 9/11 clean up.
ReplyDeleteA lot of potentials flying around, Logan’s account is plausible, so is Gen. Flynn’s “Black Swan event” comment earlier. “This guy” thinks otherwise, and he knows ships (this was from much earlier today and is without the media etc. hysteria):

Levin played 15 minutes of the initial Dispatch chatter…unbelievably quick response, professional, and exceptional in operation (notice when the shills want to disband/defund 1st Responders they are the first to demand the professionals do something).
Prayers offered for the lost, and praying the truth of what caused this is revealed, whether terrorist or accident.
Fortunate that they issued a "distress signal" right before they hit the bridge.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course Buttigieg has been informed so we can expect reconstruction to go smoothly, right?
And yes, I jest.
May God comfort and bless all who lost friends or loved ones.
More from that "what's going on with shipping" guy doing Q&A with another maritime expert. It's 50 minutes but fascinating if your attention span will allow it.

It would seem to me if this was some kinda terrorist or cyber action, they would have done it during rush hour traffic instead of when this happened.
Rush hour or not is a big picture vs little picture thing. Taking out the Key Bridge screws up the US way more than hundreds of deaths. That’s big picture. Killing a few hundred, or even thousands, is little picture. (At least that’s how I see it.) And frankly, minimizing casualties is smart because smart terrorists who want to truly harm the US (and carry on doing it) would not want to whip up public frenzy like 9/11 did. Let us think this is just an accident.
DeleteI have no idea if this was a deliberate event, but IF it’s coldly dispassionate planning by low time-preference serious people such as our Good Friends the Russians or the Chinese, this seems to fit. A bunch of desert retards, expect something more overt and unambiguous. (And of course our Best Friends, who have harmed the US more than Russians, Chinese and desert retards combined, have their own methods. But that’s another conversation.)
Not that I know what I’m talking about here. But that’s how I see it. I’m reminded of something author Larry Correia wrote about having dinner with six (I think) SF guys where the topic of conversation was, essentially, how do you cripple a major American city? They picked Chicago because all seven of them knew the area. You don’t do it by hijacking a plane out of ORD and flying it into the Sears Tower. You break or cripple the transportation and power grids. I’d also want to take out internet. (Again, I don’t know for sure, but no internet would definitely screw up business in general, and if it also takes down EBT, Katie bar the door.)
You may be right about who may have done what, Mike, but the species who attacked the World Trade Center twice weren't the type to engage in subtle thinking and most likely haven't changed their ways. For the record, I consider that cause highly unlikely.
ReplyDeleteBut, I'd be willing to bet the cause will ultimately be a lot less exotic and, in a way, more complicated. I'd be willing to bet this will come down to a series of small failures of equipment, planning and/or training that kept stacking up until the wreck became inevitable. Most industrial "accidents" are. The two guys at that second link talk about a lot of those potential causes.
The bridge will be rebuilt by DEI hires, it will be years behind projected completion date, the cost will be triple the projected estimate, and it will collapse on its own 5 years later. Lather, rinse, repeat.
ReplyDeleteThis just in: Irish found out what caused it:
ReplyDeletehttps://theferalirishman.blogspot.com/2024/03/well-well-well-this-does-explain-things.html
The bridge, named for a white man who was part of the patriarchy, was racist and needed to go. The Butt guy (also a member of the patriarchy) was right.
ReplyDelete@WWW…re: Irish link: The boat is only as good as the Captain steering it.
ReplyDeleteWell said, Ed. Of course they'd never lie.
ReplyDeleteNightwind, "Here they just borrow more money from BlackRock and build another bridge at taxpayers' expense and the shipping firm gets a tax write-off and the inspectors go on keeping their jobs," has a ring of truth.
ReplyDeleteMost definitely, Paul, prayers are in order, not least for Baltimore itself.
ReplyDeleteDear Lord, Linda, I'd forgotten about the Butt guy.
ReplyDeleteKyrie Eleison.
Maybe so, Wild. Then again, others argue that more serious players would've minimized casualties.
ReplyDeleteI'll check out the vid.
What can we say, Mike, yet another nail in Baltimore's progressively terminal coffin. You know, I nearly moved there back in the day. That would've been a mistake, and now what's left of the city has a crippled port. But hey, maybe DEI will fix the problem.
ReplyDeleteI tell you, it's hardly as though we need external enemies, eh?
Well yes, Swankenstein, our Beloved Rulers must get richer.
ReplyDeleteNice one, Wild.
ReplyDeleteYes, LL, we must smash the patriarchy and its racist bridges and sink its ships.
ReplyDeleteBeware attributing to malice what can be explained by stupidity.
