Urban Dog Hell Strikes Dallas

A deep growl came from the other side of Shaniqua Roland’s front door.
She was pregnant at the time and headed to a doctor’s appointment, but she knew she couldn’t leave the house. Not with the dogs back.

No, that's not some low piece of satire from the dark bowels of the internet, it's the urban dog hell of Dallas, south of I30.  Smart residents keep their Heelers on a leash a Glock close to hand. At least that's our practice at HQ Northern Command.

  1. does Dallas have a sizable Korean population? I mean multi-multiculturalism and all that neat stuff. Gotta help the poor and so on.

    Cheers ;>)

  2. When you have two or more dogs together, you have a pack, and packs can be dangerous. I agree that many of these dogs can be separated from their pack and be good dogs.

Whenever the Indians next door have two pits, I never ever go in our gully without being armed.

  3. God made men and Samuel Colt made them equal...and more equal than feral dogs.

  4. Does Dallas not have a dogcatcher on retainer? Or is that just something from the '30s and/or cartoons?

  5. As the article states, the city's animal control has their hands full trying to round up the thousands of strays. I've seen how the packs can run, in my old neighborhood, gathering together at night to roam. As Adrienne pointed out, two dogs can make up a pack, and with it that mentality. Just a couple months ago, we lost a cat on our front porch when two loose dogs pounced on him and tore him up. The only thing my wife could do was hold him while he bled to death. I love dogs, but I keep mine in the yard or on a leash, and keep a pistol or stout walking cane handy when out.

    1. Sorry about the cat. Sound defense strategy.

  6. Good point, Egyptian. Just how many of those dogs end up on plates in North Dallas?

  7. That's just the way it is, LL. I've been on the odd feral dog hunt before now -- they're a right menace.

  8. There's Animal Services, Theodore, but they're vastly outnumbered.

  9. It is unfit owners that cause most of the problems. It is sad that they are such a scary problem.

    1. Totally the owners. Shouldn't be allowed to have dogs.
