Wow, maybe it's almost time to unleash a few B17s, just for kicks. And here's a thought, maybe something like an upgraded P51 would be useful against low tech opposition? Cheap, too, which might be a factor in weeks to come.

The Super-Tucano is basically an updated P-51. So there's that.
ReplyDeleteWhat we need, more than B-17s, really is something like a PBY-5 Catalina or a later version of the PBM-Mariner. Basically, yes, turboprop seaplanes capable of launching long-range missiles or air-dropped mines or torpedoes or bombs. I'd go with an updated Mariner as it was faster, overall better (except for the pesky engine fires... which they fixed) and more comfortable than the Catalina.
And, funny, the US military is looking into Japan's continued use of seaplanes. They've got a big-arsed 4-engine turboprop that has huge range, heavy lift capability and is just a nice plane.
Overall I prefer 'bomb, bomb, bomb' to 'troops on the ground.' Let's hope the Iranian leaders run out of leaders to lead...

ReplyDeleteI was just yesterday scouring the internet looking at the B1 and all its variants , what a ride that would be , a crew of four ? I'd sit on the floor and make it 5 . That'd be so cool Man . Imagine just cruising through the darkness rippin through the sky , maybe flying low and super fast . ......Be like riding on a giant barn swallow .

ReplyDeleteI recall one such aircraft was surprised to be greeted by an old school ZSU-23 antiaircraft gun and the pilot was poorly treated when captured.
Let alone fire and forget MANPADS like Biden issued to the Taliban.
The B-17 worked but more than half were shot down in each raid into Germany.
I prefer we give our air crews the best survival chance when we send them into war.

Seems the Syria plan is in effect. No negotiation, just reduce Iran into chaos by repeated decapitation strikes and Trump is trying to hire the Kurds (really ISIS rebranded) to fight to capture themselves a homeland.
