My linage is all Blue Belly Yankees. Think the Iron Brigade from Wisconsin, among others. The Colorado militia at Gloritea Pass. My personal opinion was the war was economic. The North didn't want British imports because they couldn't compete with the quality and superior performance of British manufacturing. The South wanted to hold on to cheap labor to support their agrarian based economy and their principal customer, Britain.

Mother's kin fought on the side of the North, but Daddy's were on both sides, not quite brother against brother but certainly cousin against cousin, however remotely. Some didn't make it, and one killed A.P. Hill during the closing days of that unpleasantness. So, I hold with Mr. Wales on this one.
