Diocesan Recruitment

Many years ago I sat at a table of good bishops, real bishops, bishops that weren't and aren't afraid to stand for Gospel truth and apostolic teaching. One of them suggested I apply for for a position in London, as a kind of force multiplier, perhaps.

The Rt. Rev. Jack Iker looked a bit nonplussed and I replied, "Your Lordship, I suggest a new diocesan recruitment strategy." He raised a quizzical if professional eyebrow and I continued, unashamed, "It goes like this. Can't shoot, can't ride, can't fish, can't get in." Wisdom, do you not think?

typical

But by all means feel free to disagree and bet against the Monkey and devil take the hinder.

Your Old Pal,

LSP

  1. The monkey holds the money...

But must you fish successfully? Even Peter was skunked from time to time (or so we read).

  3. Seems to be fine qualifications for many positions. Wimps need not apply.

  5. God directs those for the calling”, then (theoretically & hopefully) uses the individual talents where needed as needed to reach the people. Paul v. Peter are a prime example of differential personalities and approaches, yet necessary in their particular circles.

Nice “seat” BTW…relaxed and straight, loose leg…well done…not that you need my opinion.

  6. Mr. LL, I had to pull my last reply because it was defective.

In answer: It's perhaps for the best that some fishing expeditions are unsuccessful because this acts as an incentive, a driver for victory in the next round.

    Then there's the Monkey.

Some people think they can simply storm into the Compound's Office and take all the money. Good luck with that, see the simian.

  7. WSF, I feel it's especially appropriate for clergy. You see, they get all up in the books and vestments and... Ride Shoot Fish (RSF) keeps things grounded.

  8. Well said, Paul, and thanks for the plaudit.

You know, that horse was fast and bred for speed/track (Thoroughbred) but willful and sometimes dangerous if you weren't doing you job.

That said, I had many, many days training and riding her, what a lot of fun! Off we'd go, fast as fury and smooth as you like. But that was a few years back, before a mad Arab went rodeo and kicked me off (I was rusty and probably deserved it). Three screws in the femur later and I haven't been on for a while... saying that, I'd like to get back in the saddle again, but only on a well trained horse.

  9. Love Bishop Iker! He's almost as handsome as you, but he may be a very,
    very teeny bit smarter.

  10. Adrienne, he's far more professional!

  11. So, I take it you didn't go to London?

And as to horseback, only been on three times. But the pros said I rode like I've been doing it all my life. Eh, there's this natural feel between horse and man, easy to feel if you pay attention.

Love horses. Would love to have the money, space and time to spend on more riding.

And you, LSP, look like a natural.

  12. Thanks, Beans.

No, I didn't go to London, just stayed here in the country, which is good. But tell you what, though, wouldn't mind a holiday 18thC house in Clerkenwell/Bloomsbury.

Hmmmm. All good things in their time.
