As I read LL's excellent sermon on the nature of Truth and Mathematics, my mind went back to the good old days of the Church of England, the days before womyn priestesses. In fact, to the day of a "viva," OK, interview, with the suffragan bishop figure of Tewkesbury, which is a picturesque town in Gloucestershire noted for hippies, a battle and an abbey church, now a cathedral.
"Can we say," asked the grey-clad prelate in his unpleasantly low-ceilinged 'lounge,' "that there is such a thing as right and wrong?"
It was a genuine question and the fighting monkey was young in those days, so I answered, "Oh, I think there is. Say I took a baby and skinned it, alive. Would that be right or wrong?"
He muttered something like, "Ahem, yes," and moved on, doubtless mentally oppressed by the stifling lowness of the ceiling above him, and the ferocity of the monkey. I apparently passed muster, curiously.
Point of the parable? That there is such a thing as Truth, with a capital T, that which is, and our minds are in conformity with it or not. And, ultimately, this Truth is God, He who is, I AM that I AM, self-existent being which speaks all things into being. Try saying no to that and see how far you get.
Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν ὁ λόγος, καὶ ὁ λόγος ἦν πρὸς τὸν θεόν, καὶ θεὸς ἦν ὁ λόγος, in the beginning was the word and the word was with God, and the word was God. Reflect on that and do not dare, unless you are a fool, to go against it, reality Himself.
Here endeth the Lesson,
LSP
I have something special I'm posting tomorrow and it will be dedicated to you, my dear LSP.
ReplyDeleteAs an "unchurched" non participant in organized religion, I find your posts make more sense to me than most of what I read. Thank you for having a blog, and for what you post.
ReplyDeleteAdrienne, I'm privileged!
ReplyDeleteWSF, I appreciate that, a lot.
ReplyDeleteAnd I try to keep things approximately down to earth, which reminds me. About time we had another "Aliens Take Over ACoC" post. Hmmmm.
Many people say no to Him. And they seem to be getting away with it.
ReplyDeleteBut they will have their day and He will have his with them.
Sorry to be so far behind. Waiting is taking a toll. But I keep praising God and thanking him for His many blessings.
You all be safe and God bless.
I was talking to a Catholic priest once who said there was no evil. My response was, "Why then are you a priest?"
ReplyDeleteYes, evil exists. Just talk to any expert about Pedophiliacs/Pederasts. Real experts, those who deal with them in and out of prison.
I've encountered real evil in my life. To the point that demonic possession or 'selling one's soul' is something I really truly believe in. It is the only explanation for some weird stuff I've witnessed.
Still kind of surprised that when they lowered my Father-in-Law down into the ground, that the winch didn't keep going for a while, then when it stopped, the sound of a door opening and a blast of heat come up the grave-shaft and a deep, hearty, "Welcome Home, Doyle!" sound out. Never a more evil person I've ever met than my F-I-L.
Boggles my mind that people won't or don't or can't believe in the concept of 'Good and Evil.' That they deny Heaven and Hell exist. Or the ones that accept Hell and Satan, but deny God and Heaven.
On a different note, have you noticed that one of the top-selling brands of fake meat (plant based and full of artificial flavors and such) is from "Morningstar Farms"? Would you eat anything from a company called Morningstar Farms?
Straight is the gate and narrow is the way - and much like the eye of the needle, you must enter unburdened and on your knees.
ReplyDeleteI wonder about churchmen who travel on executive jets and stay in 5-Star hotels - if they are able to conflate what they do with what Christ taught? Usually the response (if one dare asks) is, "take my plate and shovel some more sweet-and-sour shrimp on it for me, there's a good man." After all, man does not live by bread alone, but by another large helping of sweet-and-sour shrimp, and a valet to lay out his/her/its clothes (pronouns are important these days), and draw a hot bath.
Honeyed words from a 'whited sepulchre' only go so far. I mean, the fuel tanks on the Gulfstream are not filled by prayers, LSP. And the in-flight meal of chateaubriand paired with a mellow merlot doesn't just walk onto the fine china and silver flatware. I just hate it when the lobster in the lobster bisque isn't fresh, don't you?
We've come a long way from John, wearing animal skins, preaching at the Jordan, surviving on locust.
Linda, they've become brazen. Like their Father, the Devil.
ReplyDeleteHope the house is coming along!
Beans, I know and agree. But perhaps the priest was saying that evil is an absence of good? Which gives it a parasitical relationship to being/God?
ReplyDeleteThis sounds, when put badly, as though evil doesn't exist, which it manifestly does. But think, why does evil and wickedness dissipate so quickly before the wind of truth? Because it's hardly there in the first place. It has very little substance. For example, Biden's the most popular President in the history of voting, for all of history.
Just thinking out loud.
Morningstar? Interesting, hadn't noticed that...
A long way? Yes, LL, we surely have.
ReplyDeleteWhere's my private jet, dammit!
Snap to, RHSM.
Slowly, Parson. Did a little blog post. Praising God and ignoring the world tomorrow.
