One of the many themes of this widely read international mind blog is God. That in mind, I was going to post a photo of an evil cryptid caught in a game cam followed by allusion to the current antics of the Anglican Non-Communion. But no, here's some random black gun pics instead.
The 5.56 carbine started off life as a CMMG LE something or other and's gone through several upgrades. It's a handy little heater, light, reliable, plenty of red dot accuracy (Ballistic Advantage barrel, Hypertouch Enhanced Duty trigger), and just a lot of fun to shoot.
My old Mossberg Ultimag 12's seen plenty action too and it's been a workhorse since I bought it a decade ago, second hand at a gunshow for 200 bucks. Birds, rabbits, clay/skeet and various varminting, armed walkabouts. Well done, gun. Probably time for an upgrade though, as its ejection's getting a bit unreliable, despite replacing the ejectors, polishing the chamber etc.
And what's wrong with an Aero Precision 7.62 AR? Nothing at all, though they're heavy and who wants an exercise in weight lifting when you've got other things to think about?
Still, it shoots like a champ with the easy recoil of a 20 gauge; zeroed at 200 yards for 165 grain ammo. I've only shot targets with the thing but my eldest boy's taken down a few hogs with it. Take that, tuskers. But what gun post's complete without a pistol?
Here's one, a kitchen drawer Glock 21 which stands ready and waiting put down tried and true .45 ACP if the occasion demands, or if it doesn't. I've had 1000s of rounds of gratuitous enjoyment putting this piece of Austrian engineering through it's paces against paper, steel, kettles, scrap iron, rocks, concrete, melons, stuffed toys and whatever else. Are Glocks the best of their kind? I don't know, I'm no expert, but I do like mine.
Remember this, a free citizen is able to defend himself, a slave isn't.

Seeing your trusty Mossberg next to your fishing gear reminded me of this bit from "Boston Legal" (couldn't find the english version)--

Shot a Glock 43 single stack 9mm yesterday. Like it, gonna get one.
At the range in the photo I sent, I zeroed my scoped M1A for handloads with Hornady 155gr. ELD Match bullets. Yes, weight is a consideration. The scope is a Redfield (Leupold since 2009) 2-7x33mm. Weighs 11 oz.
At my age and eyesight (macular degeneration) most of mine are in the hands of family members. The Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Special I've owned since 1995 stays. Lots of round downrange and it has never, not once, failed to function. Even the few squibs cleared the barrel.
ReplyDeleteI've never been more than adequate with a handgun. My sister can consistently hit 50 yard targets with it but prefers her .38 Special.

ReplyDeleteIt’s probably for the best that you’re not still here with the CoE, Padre. After all, causing the ArchBishop to have a heart-attack by ‘flaunting’ your ‘arsenal’ of black-murder-assault guns (with shoulder things that go up) and loaded with lazer-guided-death bullets … let alone actually believing in God would do him in (and most of the hierarchy) for sure.
Am I mistaken, I thought you were in Texas? I mean, even I have more (stashed with friends over there, and elsewhere) and most regimental armouries stock would only be classed as ‘a good start’ for an enthusiast there, right? Away from old Blitey (honest officer) I tend to carry a Glock 19 (officially it’s supposed to be a P226, and I ‘do’ still miss my Hi power/P-35) in in a T-Rex sidecar but I worry that my natural inclination tends to approach:

OK, I don't really worry about it.
So, I think you’re due slightly more than an upgrade (where’s your .338 and .50? What do you mean you don’t need one? You ‘can’ so you ‘have’ to own one because … America! Yeh).
(Talk to LL, I have a sneaking suspicion he may have … more than I do and … I’m not feeling insecure about that, honestly)
I've had a few tragic boating accidents that have left me with but very few self defense options. However, I did manage to order a SIG P365 (SAS) with NIB bullseye sights as a 'pocket pistol'. It should arrive on Monday.
ReplyDeleteDo I need to seek forgiveness or merely "permission" for buying a 9mm? We all know that the .45ACP is more holy. However I did come by a few paultry rounds of uber wicked 9mm ammo recently that punch 1" wound channels through targets. And frankly, it's the ammo that made me feel that I might be forgiven for this one, small sin of caliber.
I was in Phoenix, buying other supplies for the Mine and while there the presence of inner city people was offset by the comfort of my Kimber 1911 and my back-up handgun. But there are times when discretion means that I need to go smaller. Sure, I might have other options, but when does a new firearm with unique sights not sooth the tattered soul?
We are all trying to keep up with LSP.
No sign of the 20?
ReplyDeleteI can not bear to leave an AR stock. The last one I purchased in no way resembles how it started. Is the Glock the best? I won't open that can of worms. It suits you and that's the most important thing.
ReplyDeleteThe Glock 21 is a very good handgun. Don't listen to those who would detract.
ReplyDeleteNow, there are other good handguns as well.

ReplyDeleteIt is truly tragic the number of us that have suffered boating accidents recently isn’t it?
Personally it reminds me of how often I ‘accidentally’ destroyed, or lost, ‘minor, unimportant’ issued items (I remember once ‘losing’ an old CG M2).
As you alluded to elsewhere, the calibre isn’t the important bit (well assuming it’s a major. Placement and, failing that, it's how many you can throw down-range that counts). I’ve personally put seven .45 Black Talons centre mass and … still had the ‘local gentleman’ attempt to give me a haircut with his cultural machete before he expired (as one of my sergeants, typically uncouthly, stated “That there’s one of those times you realise that adrenalin is brown and runs down your leg” later repeated, predictably, when I took a 5.45x39 to the leg, just in time to collapse/turn me so that the following .50 hit my SAPI obliquely and bounced, rather than ‘splashing’ me) .
I thought about going to .357 SIG but decided it wasn’t worth the trouble (difficulty in ‘local supply’) so I just Mozambique them now (I should have listened to the Col. when I got my grey cap), and I like to be able to carry G17 mags for those ‘extras’ (I even thought about a G18 mag, but as that same sergeant stated about knife fighting ‘if you’re close/desperate enough to do that, you’ve been running the wrong way”).
.45 is cultural, you’re not a real American without it (if it was about size we’d all be carrying S&W 500). You’re not going to be excommunicated for buying a nine. Your fellow country men ‘will’ however start wondering whether you’re becoming possibly a little ‘effeminate’ or worse ‘European’.
What a great vid, RHT. And Redfield sounds like a good option, value. Jealous of your M1A!
ReplyDeleteI like wheel guns, WSF, and really enjoy the .38 Special. At some point I'll upgrade to .357 and all of that, but first a lever gun and a new pump.
ReplyDeleteHa! I like BRCC vids, nice. But yes, my armory's sadly depleted after a terrible boating accident, oh well. Then there's the venerable if shrinking CoE and its lead bishop figure, Justsin. Kyrie eleison.
ReplyDeleteHaven't shot a Hi Power in YEARS, and wasn't very good with it when I did, annoyingly. Must go back to that pistol for a return match. Hmmmmm.
LL, te absolvo. And now that you mention it, I wouldn't mind getting a 9 as well. But look, keep the pistols OUT of the boats.
ReplyDeleteTC, it's alive and well despite resting on the bed of a deep, deep lake. Maybe I'll be able to salvage it for dove season...
ReplyDeleteRight on, Jim. Modular little beasts. And hey, Glocks work.
ReplyDeleteI've heard about this, LL, and seem to remember a Colt Python and an attractive Kimber. Perhaps more is more?
ReplyDeleteAnon, it's true, all hail the mighty .45, but I enjoyed LL's .460 Magnum (for bear, obvs). Alas, it sank beneath the waves.
ReplyDeleteIf I bought another lever rifle, it would be in .357.
ReplyDeleteAnd, nothing like semi-auto shotguns. Weatherby SA-08 for example.
I don't have a semi auto shotgun, Kid, but I prob should. Thanks for the Weatherby tip. .357 lever? What a sensible round, and I'd like a Winchester but maybe the way cheaper Marlin would do the trick...
ReplyDeleteMight be time to get that scuba gear going while the weather's warm. If not, CZ re-released the updated version of it - same low price and great action.
ReplyDeleteI have no issues with the 30-30 Marlin. Solid gun. And heck why not a Dan Wesson 357 kit w/ multiple barrels and grips to go with for those Harry Callahan inspired moments :)
ReplyDeletePS - Don't know about other lever brands, but you want the side eject so a scope can be mounted.
ReplyDeleteTC, I have a weird suspicion that the SxS will rise, miraculously, from the depths. Must get an equivalent 12 -- SxS/OU, though I'd prefer a SxS, coz.
ReplyDeleteLike your Defender! Well done!
Kid, I shot my best ever pistol group with a custom Dan Wesson 1911. I was amazed, whole different level. But let's see about the lever. I have a feeling one's in the offing sooner rather than later and yes, what's wrong with a 30-30? Nothing.
ReplyDeleteGood ejection reminder...
fwiw, I was speaking more about the Marlin itself.
