Easter Music From Russia

OK, Wilco's "Kingpin" is pretty Easter but so's this, from Russia.

  1. The liturgical music is beautiful and haunting.

  2. Kingpin didn't do it for me, but this THIS makes my heart go pitty patty!

As you know, right next door is three traditional priests of the FSSP. Next in line is St. John the Baptist Antiochian Orthodox Church with the most sublime music imaginable (the food rocks too.) Nothing better than to sit on the deck and gaze across to the onion dome of St. John's.

I'd have to believe the devil will have a hell of a time (not to make a pun) getting through to me.

  3. LL, it has such power. We have it too in the West, think plainsong and the music of the Crusades, but it's been driven underground and taken from the people. And this raises the larger question, will we regain our spirit? I'd say yes, but doubtless at some cost.

  4. Same here, Adrienne, so uplifting!

The Antiochenes are an interesting crew, I always think. Regardless of Orthodox politics, their music's outstanding. We need to unleash the power of the Western Rite, imo, but good luck with that given the dead hand of lib bishops. Still, your FSSP priests are having a go at it, I respect that.

PS. I love the Latin Mass but the readings too? Really? Always struck me as weird and slavish; but what do I know, just a simple country parson.

Just between thou and moi - I agree.

I read the English and then while they were chanting I surfed the web. Not too holy am I?
