That's an interesting point, LL. But surely "Purple" were more of a speed thing for the peon fandom and coke for the band? Not that I'd know anything much about it but weren't Leary, Owsley & Co. the gurus of an earlier generation? See the Creepy Clown, Alan Ginsberg and all the other Summer of Treason mountebanks.
Speaking of which, maybe we need to revisit Solstice in Austin? Bring it up to date, sort of thing. I'm in if you are -- writing challenge.
Hard for me to say the same thing twice LSP, but here goes.
I love it when people like Sander's get punked [by a fake Mr Greta dad and a fake Greta]
As far as Deep Purple, a couple of my favorites are Lazy (dated) and Highway Star. I'll still listen to Highway Star. (Deep Purple's bass player is playing with with Joe Satriani lately)
I'll post the whole of the Highway Star lyrics, so skip thru if ya want - of course.
Nobody gonna take my car I'm gonna race it to the ground Nobody gonna beat my car It's gonna break the speed of sound Oooh it's a killing machine It's got everything Like a driving power big fat tires And everything I love it and I need it I bleed it Yeah it's a wild hurricane Alright hold tight I'm a highway star Nobody gonna take my girl I'm gonna keep her to the end Nobody gonna have my girl She stays close on every bend Oooh she's a killing machine She's got everything Like a moving mouth body control And everything I love her I need her I seed her Yeah she turns me on Alright hold on tight I'm a highway star Nobody gonna take my head I got speed inside my brain Nobody gonna steal my head Now that I'm on the road again Oooh I'm in heaven again I've got everything…
I'm sure that the Bern was a Deep Purple fan back when he was dropping a lot of acid. Literary brilliance like this defined a generation:
ReplyDeleteRide the rainbow
Crack the sky
Stormbringer coming
Time to die
Got to keep running
Stormbringer coming
He's got nothing you need
He's gonna make you bleed
I think that it's better if you're blasted by drinking grappa or if you've been sipping some of Tim Leary's Orange Sunshine.

It's got everything
Like a driving power big fat tires
And everything
I love it and I need it
I bleed it
Yeah it's a wild hurricane
Alright hold tight
I'm a highway star
Nobody gonna take my girl
I'm gonna keep her to the end
Nobody gonna have my girl
She stays close on every bend
Oooh she's a killing machine
She's got everything
Like a moving mouth body control
And everything
I love her I need her
I seed her
Yeah she turns me on
Alright hold on tight
I'm a highway star
Nobody gonna take my head
I got speed inside my brain
Nobody gonna steal my head
Now that I'm on the road again
Oooh I'm in heaven again
I've got everything…
