My, it being a Sunday, just look at these bishop figures. Imagine, if you can, so many people pretending to be something they don't believe in anyway. I like this infographic:
Touching, isn't it. Then there's the new bishop figure of London, pretty hot, eh? C'mon, COE, let's fill those empty pews!
But don't forget Gloucester, which labours under an ancient curse. Maybe Rachel's going to lift that because she's so feminine and gorgeous.
See, the thing is no one's going to take the venerable if disastrously shrinking Church of England seriously if they don't consecrate women to the episcopate.
Just you wait and see; something nasty in the woodshed? With apologies to the awesome Stella Gibbons, hardly, parading in plain sight.
Your Old Friend,
LSP
That's just wrong.
ReplyDeleteYeesh. I need a shower. Again.
ReplyDeleteOn a brighter note, was reminded of this on another blog.

Drat. I must be allergic to the pipes. Dusty in here again. Must be the Scot blood in my veins.
Wow!
ReplyDeleteWimmin clergy, bleech!
ReplyDeleteWhat Linda said...
ReplyDeleteThe only reason to have the church if you cut Christ out of it is to separate the people from money.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm afraid what when you do that, you play to the wrong deity.
Jesus was a carpenter and the other apostles were either respectable working-class or lower middle-class men. They were not poor, but neither were they rich or men who had significant influence or power in their local communities. Their ordinariness is striking. It was their Faith that made them extraordinary and the Holy Spirit that gave them power and authority. Look at these 'bishops', could any of these successors of the apostles build a garden shed, manage a boat or run a work gang? They are the modern Sadducees and Pharisees who have all the power of the functionary and rely upon the authority of their office. If Jesus turned up today they would be the ones calling for his arrest and prosecution. Thank God there are still Bishops who are men of Faith and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
ReplyDeleteI think it was around 15 years ago that the Church of England predicted England would be under sharia law in 30 years. I'd say they're on track and maybe gave England a bit more 'resistance' credit than they deserved as that may happen sooner.
ReplyDeleteI figure England after the 1700's has been populated with people too chicken or too stupid to come to America and carve out a freedom state.
I totally agree, Linda.
ReplyDeleteLove the pipes, RHT.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the shower. Then there's Gloucester.
Not a pretty picture, Ed.
ReplyDeleteSue, the wymmin have captured that facsimile of a church.
ReplyDeleteBrig, we speak as one.
ReplyDeleteHa! LL, follow the money. Wisdom.
ReplyDelete"could any of these successors of the apostles build a garden shed"
ReplyDeleteAnon, that makes me think, immediately, of Cold Comfort Farm and the remarkable Stella Gibbons.
But no, of course they couldn't. BA in gender studies at Leicester? Different story.
Ah, Kid, I hear you but never underestimate the sheer savagery of the great British public. Not kidding.
ReplyDeleteThey're not too happy about sharia.
