I don't know why but there's always a surge of excitement, an uplifting movement in the force, at the prospect of going to a gun show. At least there is for me and then, when you get there, the excitement builds. So many guns, so much ammo! It's like Christmas.
A pricey Christmas, mind you, because a lot of the vendors seem to think their beat up, second hand, pawn shop wares are worth full price. I don't get that. Why would you think anyone would be dumb enough to buy your second hand Glock for the price of its new equivalent. Beats me.
Still, gun shows are fun and you never know, there might even be a bargain lurking in the wings. There wasn't this time, but there was a rainbow table and a neat 6.5 AR; which was best?
Tough call and I resisted the siren song only to weaken at the plaintive call of the young 'un.
"Please can we get a Confederate flag and an MRE?" Seeing as how the flag cost a mere 5 bucks and the MRE the same, I bought both. Eat the appalling MRE under the awesome flag, sort of thing.

Yay, gun shows can be interesting, for sure.
ReplyDeleteGeez, why didn't you say something before,
I could have sent you a crate of MREs, only had them a few years, they are good for longer than I'll be around...
A confederate flag and an MRE - You could simply lay those on the stairway to any building at Harvard, and wait for the police, the bomb squad and the ubiquitous FBI to show up. They'd be treated like nuclear weapons. Likely that would make the CNN and MSNBC evening news. They are completely toxic to progressives.
ReplyDeleteHarvard is the place where the unicorns leave these on the sidewalks: https://www.amazon.com/ToySource-Steamer-Collectible-Rainbow-Inches/dp/B0757RQ3LY/ref=sr_1_21?ie=UTF8&qid=1518348199&sr=8-21&keywords=stuffed+unicorn+dead
For a real treat, get him some C-rations. I recommend the ham and lima beans or the ham and eggs.
ReplyDeletePray tell, what on earth is an MRE?
ReplyDeleteAnd was the rainbow table there for people supporting unicorns? I hope you went over there and gave them a tongue lashing!
Ham and egg C-rats were ok with a lot of Tobasco sauce. Nothing helped Ham and Limas (also called "Ham and Motherf-ckers" by GI's in the field. Of course, REMF's never had to eat those. They could eat at the mess and the officers in the rear areas had a better quality of commissary set up, and access to nurses.
ReplyDeleteHad MREs a few times in the State Guard, and I didnt mind them too much. It beat actually cooking (using the ration heaters) or eating cold food.
ReplyDeleteIt used to be fun to go to a gun show, but now that I already have most of the guns I can easily afford, and the fact that they want nearly ten bucks just to walk in, it just isn't as fun as it used to be. As you pointed out, most of the vendors want full rippin' retail for their goods. Haven't they heard theres a glut in the market, or are the snowflake militias arming themselves screwing that up too? (Not that that's an issue in Texas, away from the greater Austin area.)
Brig, I should've asked!
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Juliette, an MRE is a weird kind of dried military food which heats up when you add water to it. Meals Ready to Eat. The cadet wanted one VERY badly, let's see how that plays out in the future.
ReplyDeleteAnd what an attractive unicorn table! I didn't speak with the vendors, oddly.
What an excellent Harvard link, LL! Some say it's Satan's Vatican and I'm not saying it isn't, either. And for sure, we stocked up on prog repellent in a small way. I had my eye on a S&W .357 Mag... but didn't bite the bullet; too bad, it would've made the trifecta.
ReplyDeleteI never tried the US C rations but remember the old Brit ones. All those cans! Heavy, and that's just on the stomach... I have a feeling some of them dated back to the invasion of Europe but perhaps that's a myth.
JIm, I take that advice guardedly!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what the deal is, Mattexian. I was after a cheap relacement for my Mossberg pump, which is about to become a door stopper and they had one, used, at the same price as retail. Pirates. Well, their loss and I wasn't inclined to bargain.
ReplyDeleteWe used to get these tinned sausages, which went well with tinned marmalade, curiously. Rule Britannia.
